Accused Blamed Victim for Personal Struggles

According to police officials, the accused, a 35-year-old man, had been struggling with several personal issues over the past few years. Married for nearly a decade without children, he reportedly began to believe that his inability to have a child was due to supernatural interference.

Investigators revealed that he suspected his neighbour, a 55-year-old woman living nearby, of casting harmful spells. His suspicions deepened after a series of events, including the death of his father last year and the breakdown of his marriage, as his wife had reportedly left him.

Authorities say these personal setbacks reinforced his belief that the woman was responsible for his troubles, despite no evidence supporting such claims.

Familiarity Turned Into Fatal Distrust

The victim was known to the accused and had regular interactions with his family. Residents of the area said she often visited his house, which may have contributed to his growing suspicion.

Over time, the accused allegedly began associating her presence with bad luck. Police sources indicated that he had developed a fixed belief that even seeing her could negatively affect his daily activities and plans.

This pattern of thinking, rooted in superstition rather than reality, appears to have escalated unchecked, ultimately leading to violence.

Incident Occurred Inside Accused’s House

The incident took place on Monday evening in Dumrasol village. Police said the accused invited the woman to his house under the pretext of a conversation.

Once she arrived, he allegedly attacked her with a wooden stick. The assault proved fatal, and she died at the scene before any help could reach her.

Local residents became aware of the incident shortly afterward, prompting authorities to take swift action.

Police Action and Arrest

Following information provided by the village watchman, police from the local station reached the spot and began an investigation. The accused was apprehended while attempting to flee the area.

Officials confirmed that the weapon used in the crime was recovered from the scene. The victim’s body was sent for postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

A formal complaint was lodged by the victim’s daughter, leading to the registration of a case against the accused.

Authorities Highlight Role of Superstition

Senior police officials stated that the crime appears to have been driven entirely by the accused’s belief in superstition. According to them, there was no factual basis for the allegations he made against the victim.

They emphasized that such incidents underline the urgent need for awareness and education to counter harmful traditional beliefs. Superstition, when left unchallenged, can lead to tragic outcomes, as seen in this case.

Growing Concern Over Superstitious Violence

Incidents linked to superstition continue to surface in various parts of the country, particularly in rural areas where access to education and awareness programs may be limited.

Experts say that social isolation, personal hardship, and lack of scientific understanding often combine to create an environment where such beliefs take root. Without timely intervention, these can escalate into acts of violence.

Authorities have urged local communities to report suspicious behaviour and seek help from law enforcement rather than relying on unverified beliefs.

The case remains under investigation, and further legal proceedings are expected as police gather additional evidence.
