Gold Outlook – Analysts Expect Short-Term Dip Before Fresh Bullish Momentum
Gold Outlook – Gold investors may need to prepare for a period of price consolidation before the precious metal resumes its upward trajectory, according to the latest market assessment by Motilal Oswal Financial Services Ltd. The brokerage believes gold prices could decline by around 6-8 per cent in the near term, creating an opportunity for disciplined long-term investors to accumulate the metal gradually instead of making large one-time purchases.

Market Drivers Have Changed
In its H1 2026 Precious Metals Outlook, the financial services firm observed that the factors influencing gold prices have evolved significantly. Unlike previous years, geopolitical tensions alone are no longer enough to trigger sustained gains in gold. Instead, investors are increasingly focusing on inflation trends, monetary policy decisions and movements in global bond markets.
The report noted that while gold retains its long-term investment appeal, short-term price fluctuations are likely as markets adjust to changing economic expectations. It advised investors to remain patient rather than reacting to temporary market weakness.
Suggested Investment Levels
For investors with a long-term perspective, the brokerage recommended following a staggered accumulation strategy. It estimates that gold may first correct by 6-8 per cent from current levels before advancing toward USD 4,800 per ounce and later crossing the USD 5,500 mark over the next 12 to 15 months.
In the Indian market, assuming the USD/INR exchange rate remains around 95.5, the report identifies the accumulation range between Rs 1,30,000 and Rs 1,33,000. Over the medium term, it projects potential price targets of Rs 1,68,000, followed by Rs 1,93,000 if broader market conditions remain supportive.
Economic Factors Influencing Prices
Gold entered 2026 with strong momentum, supported by uncertainty surrounding global tariffs, continued buying by central banks, healthy inflows into exchange-traded funds and expectations that the US Federal Reserve would reduce interest rates.
However, market sentiment shifted during the second quarter. Rising concerns over inflation, driven by tariff-related pressures and the US-Iran conflict, led investors to anticipate that interest rates could remain elevated for a longer period. This strengthened the US dollar and pushed real US Treasury yields higher, reducing the appeal of gold as a traditional safe-haven asset.
According to the report, future price direction will depend largely on the path of US inflation and policy decisions taken by the Federal Reserve under its new leadership.
Patience Recommended for Long-Term Investors
The brokerage maintained that gold’s broader investment outlook remains positive despite the possibility of a short-term correction. It believes investors should avoid trying to identify the exact market bottom and instead purchase in phases whenever prices decline.
The report added that those investing with a 12 to 15-month horizon should consider any near-term weakness as a potential buying opportunity rather than a signal to exit the market. Continued demand from central banks, growing fiscal challenges in developed economies and gold’s historical role as a hedge against currency depreciation continue to provide long-term support for prices.
Silver Investors Should Expect Higher Volatility
Apart from gold, the report also highlighted the outlook for silver. While silver could benefit from increasing industrial demand linked to electrification and clean energy sectors, investors should be prepared for sharper price swings.
Unlike gold, silver serves both as a precious metal and an industrial commodity, making its performance more sensitive to changes in manufacturing activity and economic growth. As a result, the brokerage advised investors to factor in its comparatively higher volatility before making investment decisions.
