Politics – Pappu Yadav Criticises Bansuri Swaraj Amid Parliament Protest Row
Politics – Independent MP Pappu Yadav intensified his criticism of BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj on Wednesday, accusing her of repeatedly pursuing legal action against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi while questioning her understanding of legal procedures. His remarks came as the political dispute surrounding an opposition protest inside the Parliament complex continued to escalate.

Pappu Yadav, who represents Bihar’s Purnia constituency, addressed reporters in New Delhi and alleged that Bansuri Swaraj frequently approaches law enforcement over matters involving Rahul Gandhi. He also argued that parliamentary procedures should be respected before such issues are pursued. According to Yadav, any action connected with Parliament should follow the established rules and receive the necessary approval from the Speaker where applicable.
Response to Court Notice
During the interaction, Yadav also spoke about a notice issued to him by a court in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. He said he respects the judicial process and would submit his response through legal channels. Stressing his stand against violence, the MP maintained that he has always believed in peaceful methods and would cooperate with the court proceedings.
His comments followed the court’s decision to take cognisance of the matter and issue a notice seeking his response. Yadav reiterated that he would present his position before the appropriate legal authorities rather than engage in confrontation.
Parliament Protest Sparks Political Dispute
The latest controversy stems from a theatrical protest staged by opposition MPs within the Parliament complex over allegations related to the Ram Mandir donation embezzlement issue. The demonstration quickly became a flashpoint between the ruling BJP and opposition parties, triggering sharp political exchanges.
Yadav defended the performance, describing it as a peaceful and dignified expression of protest. He questioned why a demonstration held outside the House should be treated as a breach of parliamentary privilege, especially when political criticism inside Parliament is often considered part of democratic debate.
Privilege Notice and Speaker’s Role
The Independent MP confirmed that he is prepared to explain his position if Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla seeks clarification regarding the privilege notice issued against him. The notice was moved by BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal following the protest.
Yadav stated that he had already written to the Speaker and would fully cooperate with any parliamentary process. He maintained that his actions were intended to register political dissent in a democratic manner rather than violate parliamentary norms.
Police Complaints and FIRs Filed
The protest has resulted in multiple legal complaints from BJP leaders and supporters. Several police complaints have been lodged in New Delhi, while a separate FIR has been registered in Varanasi following a complaint by a religious leader.
The demonstration featured Pappu Yadav dressed as a temple priest in saffron robes alongside other opposition MPs. The skit included the use of a donation collection box while raising allegations of corruption linked to temple donations. BJP leaders, including Bansuri Swaraj and several party MLAs, alleged that the performance hurt Hindu religious sentiments and demanded legal action.
In addition, another complaint against Yadav was filed by petitioner Surya Maithil at Jehangirpuri Police Station in the national capital. The controversy has also led to demands from BJP leaders for strict action and resignation, further intensifying the political confrontation over the protest.
