Police Act on Tip-Off During Night Operation

According to officials, the incident unfolded during a routine checking drive near Johri village under the Rajpur police station limits. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, law enforcement teams identified and pursued individuals believed to be connected to the earlier shooting case.

Senior Superintendent of Police Pramendra Dobhal stated that one of the suspects was tracked and detained in a forested stretch near Guniyal village. The operation quickly intensified when another suspect attempted to escape.

Exchange of Fire Leaves One Suspect Injured

During the pursuit, the second accused reportedly opened fire at the police team. Officers responded in self-defence, leading to a brief exchange of gunfire. The suspect sustained a bullet injury to his leg and was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

Authorities confirmed that a pistol was recovered from the spot, and senior officers, along with a forensic team, later inspected the scene to gather evidence.

Accused Identified, Investigation Expands

The police identified the detained individuals as Mohammad Kavish Hussain Tyagi, a resident of Muzaffarnagar, who was injured in the encounter, and Shantanu Tyagi from Saharanpur. Both are now under custody as investigators continue to examine their role in the case.

Officials indicated that the arrests are part of a broader crackdown. So far, four individuals have been taken into custody, while three others linked to the incident remain at large. Police have also seized both vehicles believed to have been used during the sequence of events.

Retired Army Officer’s Death Triggered Probe

The encounter is directly connected to the death of Retired Brigadier Mukesh Kumar Joshi earlier this week. The officer was reportedly struck by a stray bullet during a violent altercation between two groups in the Rajpur area.

According to police findings, the incident occurred during the early hours when the brigadier was out for a morning walk. The gunfire, initially not aimed at him, tragically resulted in his death, prompting widespread concern and a swift investigation.

Dispute at Club Led to Escalation

Preliminary findings suggest that the roots of the violence can be traced back to an argument at a local establishment known as the “Gen Z” Club. The groups involved had reportedly clashed with club staff over a payment dispute the previous night.

Police sources revealed that tensions escalated when one group was allegedly assaulted during the disagreement. The following morning, the same individuals are believed to have followed the club operators after closing hours, leading to a confrontation in Johri village.

Situation Turned Violent in Village Area

What began as a continuation of the earlier dispute soon turned into a serious confrontation. During the argument, gunfire was reportedly exchanged, ultimately resulting in the fatal injury to the retired brigadier who happened to be nearby.

Authorities are continuing efforts to locate the remaining suspects and piece together the sequence of events. The case remains under active investigation, with officials focusing on both the immediate suspects and the broader circumstances that led to the escalation.
