Crime – Four More Arrested in Delhi Assault Case Involving Army Officer
Crime – An incident in southwest Delhi has led to multiple arrests after an alleged assault involving a senior Indian Army officer and his son drew police attention.

Four additional individuals have been taken into custody in connection with the attack on an Indian Army Brigadier and his son in the Vasant Enclave area of southwest Delhi. With these arrests, police officials confirmed that all suspects who were earlier on the run have now been apprehended.
Accused Identified and Taken Into Custody
According to police, the newly arrested individuals have been identified as Surjit Singh (36), Sunil Sharma (53), Ashish (32), all residents of Mehram Nagar, and Satender (35), who hails from Bhiwani in Haryana. Earlier, two other suspects — Satender, also known as Sonu (49), and Sanjay Sharma (56), both from Mehram Nagar — had already been arrested in the same case.
Investigators stated that Surjit Singh is known to one of the key accused, Satender. On the night of the incident, the group was reportedly together in Mehram Nagar when Satender received a phone call regarding a dispute in Vasant Enclave. Soon after, they all left for the location in a Hyundai Aura vehicle registered to Surjit.
Sequence of Events Leading to the Assault
Police officials believe the situation escalated quickly after the group reached the spot. A verbal altercation reportedly turned into a physical confrontation. After the incident, the accused returned to their homes but later fled upon learning that a police case had been filed against them. They were subsequently tracked down and arrested.
The vehicle used by the accused has been recovered and is currently being examined as part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities also noted that the suspects have not been fully cooperative during questioning and have been avoiding clear responses. Initial findings suggest that the violence may not have been pre-planned but rather triggered by a sudden dispute.
Incident Timeline and Victim Account
The incident occurred on the night of April 11. According to the complaint, the Brigadier and his son had stepped out for a walk after dinner when they noticed two individuals consuming alcohol inside a parked car near their residential area.
The Brigadier reportedly objected, pointing out that drinking in a residential zone was inappropriate. This led to a heated exchange, with the individuals insisting they were locals and dismissing the objection.
The Brigadier then asked his son to contact the police. However, as per the son’s account, there was a delay of around 15 to 20 minutes before a police response team arrived. During this time, the individuals allegedly made phone calls, following which more people arrived at the scene.
The situation soon escalated when a group of around eight individuals emerged from two vehicles and allegedly attacked both the Brigadier and his son.
Allegations of Inaction at the Scene
The Brigadier’s wife, who later spoke to the media, alleged that the attackers used abusive language and made inappropriate remarks during the incident. She further claimed that when she approached a police officer present at the scene, he declined to intervene immediately, stating he could not handle the group alone and was waiting for backup.
According to her account, no additional support arrived in time, and the assault continued, resulting in injuries to both her husband and son.
Ongoing Investigation
Police have stated that further investigation is underway, including examination of evidence and continued interrogation of the accused. Authorities are working to piece together the full sequence of events and determine accountability in the case.
Officials have also indicated that all angles, including the alleged delay in police response and claims of inaction, will be reviewed as part of the inquiry.
