AndhraPradesh – Jagan Reddy Alleges Political Misuse of Police Under State Government
AndhraPradesh –Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s government came under sharp criticism on Sunday as YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy accused the ruling coalition of allowing law and order to deteriorate while allegedly using police machinery to target political opponents. In a statement shared on social media, the former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister claimed that the State was witnessing an atmosphere where political rivalry was being pursued through criminal cases and police action instead of democratic processes.
Allegations Over Police Action Against MLA
Jagan questioned the police operation carried out in the early hours of the morning at the residence of Alur BC MLA Virupakshi. According to him, officials arrived around 2:45 a.m., used force to enter the house, and arrested both the legislator and his son, Chandrasekhar. He argued that such action against an elected representative raised serious concerns about the functioning of democratic institutions and the manner in which law enforcement agencies were being deployed.
Claims Linked to Nemakallu Incident
Referring to events in Nemakallu village of Chippagiri mandal, Jagan alleged that workers associated with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) attacked the residence of a YSRCP leader. He said Virupakshi had visited the affected family to express support after the incident, during which the MLA’s brother, Sriramudu, was reportedly injured in stone-pelting. Instead of taking action against those allegedly responsible for the attack, police filed an attempt-to-murder case against the MLA, Jagan claimed. He further alleged that CCTV hard disks from the legislator’s residence were seized to suppress evidence related to the police operation.
Similar Cases Raised Across Districts
The YSRCP chief also referred to other incidents that he described as examples of political targeting. In Srikakulam district, he alleged that a road accident was converted into a murder investigation to facilitate the arrest of former minister Dr. Seediri Appala Raju. He further stated that YSRCP leader Chintada Ravikumar was booked after Jagan visited the district to extend support to party members.
In Guntur district, Jagan highlighted the case involving former Guntur East MLA Shaik Mohammed Mustafa. According to him, despite Mustafa handing over an individual linked to a business dispute directly to the police, a kidnapping case was later registered against the former legislator.
Concerns Over Youth and Education Issues
Beyond political allegations, Jagan turned his attention to issues affecting students and unemployed youth. He demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the alleged irregularities surrounding DSC-2025 recruitment. He also called for the resignation of Education Minister Nara Lokesh, claiming accountability was necessary if the allegations were to be investigated impartially.
Jagan further raised concerns over pending fee reimbursement payments under the Vidya Deevena and Vasathi Deevena welfare schemes. He alleged that dues amounting to Rs 9,500 crore remained unpaid, placing an additional financial burden on students and their families.
Unemployment Allowance Promise Questioned
The former Chief Minister also criticised the government for not implementing the promised monthly unemployment allowance of Rs 3,000. According to him, the delay has resulted in accumulated dues reaching approximately Rs 1.08 lakh for each eligible beneficiary over the past three years. He said many young people continued to wait for commitments made during the election campaign to be fulfilled.
YSRCP Vows to Continue Opposition
Concluding his statement, Jagan asserted that neither police action nor criminal cases would discourage the YSRCP from raising public issues. He maintained that political authority and official power are temporary, adding that his party would continue to challenge what it considers authoritarian governance through democratic means.
