Amaravati – Naidu Pushes Faster Construction to Shape World-Class Capital City
Amaravati – Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has asked leading infrastructure companies to speed up work in Amaravati, saying the capital is being developed as a landmark city that will become a source of pride for the country.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has instructed major construction and infrastructure firms to maintain a faster pace of work across the Amaravati capital region, emphasizing that the new city is being designed to stand among India’s finest urban developments. He said Amaravati should emerge as a modern economic and residential destination with stronger planning and better infrastructure than Hyderabad. To ensure that work progresses without unnecessary delays, the Chief Minister announced that he would personally review the status of all major projects once every two months.
High-Level Review on Capital Projects
The directions were issued during a high-level review meeting held at the State Secretariat on Monday. Representatives from leading contracting firms, including L&T, Shapoorji Pallonji, Megha Engineering (MEIL), NCC, BSR and KMV, attended the meeting along with Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P. Narayana and officials of the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA).
Officials informed the Chief Minister that infrastructure contracts valued at nearly Rs 50,999 crore have already been awarded for multiple development works. Construction activities are currently progressing across key sectors such as trunk infrastructure, mass housing projects, Land Pooling Scheme infrastructure and major government buildings, including the Legislative Assembly, High Court and Secretariat Towers.
Focus on Timely Execution
Naidu instructed all agencies to prepare in advance by arranging sufficient manpower, construction equipment and building materials to avoid any interruption in project execution. He stressed that proper planning at every stage would help complete the capital works within the expected timelines.
According to Minister P. Narayana, nearly 26,924 workers are currently deployed across different project locations. More than 5,140 heavy construction machines are also operating in the capital region to support the large-scale development activities.
Flood Management and Infrastructure Planning
The review also covered flood prevention measures planned for the future capital. Officials said the expansion of the Kondaveeti Vagu and Pala Vagu channels is progressing steadily. These works are intended to strengthen the natural drainage network and reduce the risk of flooding while supporting long-term urban infrastructure.
The Chief Minister said careful engineering and sustainable planning remain essential as Amaravati grows into a major administrative and economic centre.
Quality Standards Remain a Priority
During the meeting, Naidu said there would be no compromise on construction quality, especially for the Secretariat, Legislative Assembly and High Court complexes. He directed officials and contractors to ensure that these landmark buildings meet the highest engineering and architectural standards so they remain symbols of modern public infrastructure for decades.
He also encouraged construction firms to consider their participation in the Amaravati project as an opportunity to contribute to one of India’s largest greenfield capital city developments rather than viewing it only as a contractual assignment.
Government Targets Completion Within Schedule
Referring to the project’s history, the Chief Minister said capital development had remained stalled for several years under the previous government and added that the present administration has focused on restarting and accelerating the works over the past two years.
Naidu also expressed concern over legal challenges that, according to him, have slowed certain aspects of the project. He said unnecessary obstacles should not affect the progress of capital development.
Looking ahead, the Chief Minister stated that the government aims to complete the core infrastructure within the planned schedule. Once the major works are finished, he said Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be invited to inaugurate the key government buildings and formally mark the next phase of Amaravati’s development.
