AgniveerQuota –  Former Agniveers will receive reservation benefits in several frontline government positions in Delhi after a major decision aimed at utilizing their military training and experience in public service roles.

Agniveer quota delhi jobs reservation

Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu has approved a 20% reservation for former Agniveers in selected Group ‘C’ government posts. The decision covers positions such as police constables, firemen, forest guards, wildlife guards, and jail warders across various departments operating in the national capital.

Deadline Set for Implementation

During a high-level review meeting held on Thursday, the Lieutenant Governor instructed all concerned departments to complete the required administrative procedures and make necessary changes to their recruitment regulations by June 30. Officials were directed to ensure that the reservation policy is implemented without delay so eligible former Agniveers can benefit from the new recruitment framework.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Rajeev Verma, Police Commissioner Satish Golcha, and senior government officials responsible for personnel management and recruitment across departments.

Focus on Trained and Disciplined Workforce

According to officials, the reservation policy has been designed to make effective use of the discipline, leadership qualities, and operational training acquired by Agniveers during their military service. Authorities believe these skills can strengthen public institutions that require physical fitness, emergency response capabilities, and a strong sense of duty.

The quota will apply to recruitment processes conducted by major operational departments. These include the Delhi Police for constable appointments, the Delhi Fire Service for firemen positions, the Prison Department for jail warders, and the Department of Environment, Forest and Wildlife for forest and wildlife guard vacancies.

Addressing Staff Shortages in Emergency Services

The move is also linked to efforts aimed at improving manpower availability in critical public safety services. Sandhu had previously suggested that former Agniveers could play an important role in filling vacancies within the Delhi Fire Service, where additional personnel are needed to strengthen emergency response mechanisms.

Officials have noted that the inclusion of trained former military personnel could help improve operational readiness while supporting plans to expand fire service infrastructure across the city. The administration has been exploring ways to enhance emergency response times and increase the effectiveness of disaster management systems.

Decision Comes After Recent Fire Tragedy

The reservation announcement follows discussions held during a meeting of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), chaired by the Lieutenant Governor. The meeting took place shortly after a major fire incident at a hotel in Malviya Nagar that resulted in the loss of around two dozen lives.

The tragedy renewed attention on the need for stronger emergency preparedness and adequate staffing in departments responsible for public safety and disaster response. Officials believe that bringing former Agniveers into these services can contribute to a more capable and responsive workforce.

Broader Employment Opportunities for Ex-Agniveers

The latest initiative reflects a wider effort to create meaningful employment opportunities for former Agniveers after the completion of their four-year military tenure. By reserving positions in essential government services, the Delhi administration aims to facilitate their transition into civilian careers while simultaneously strengthening key public institutions.

The policy is expected to open new avenues for trained veterans seeking long-term employment and support the functioning of departments that play a vital role in maintaining safety, security, and environmental protection in the capital.
