Ukraine Drones – Russia’s air defence network intercepted and destroyed hundreds of Ukrainian drones during a large-scale overnight attack, according to official statements released on Tuesday. The latest wave of drone activity reflects the continuing escalation of long-range aerial operations as the conflict between the two countries enters its fifth year.
Large-Scale Drone Interceptions Reported
Russia’s Ministry of Defence stated that its air defence systems successfully intercepted and destroyed 419 fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles launched by Ukraine during the night. The ministry shared the update through the state-operated Max platform, describing the operation as one of the country’s latest responses to increasing cross-border drone strikes.
Officials did not provide information about possible casualties, injuries, or damage linked to the overnight attacks. The ministry’s statement focused primarily on the number of drones neutralized and did not release further operational details.
Moscow Among the Reported Targets
Earlier in the day, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said Russian air defence forces had intercepted 50 drones that were approaching the Russian capital overnight. According to the mayor, the drones were successfully destroyed before reaching their intended destinations.
Authorities have continued to strengthen defensive measures around Moscow and other strategically important regions as drone attacks have become more frequent over recent months.
Drone Campaign Continues to Expand
Ukraine has significantly increased its long-range drone operations against Russian territory in recent months. Many of these attacks have reportedly focused on energy facilities and related infrastructure, which are considered strategically important for supporting Russia’s wartime economy.
Analysts have noted that such strikes are intended to disrupt key economic assets while placing additional pressure on Russia’s logistical and industrial capabilities. The latest figures come only days after Russian authorities announced that air defence systems had intercepted 660 Ukrainian drones between Thursday and Friday, marking one of the highest reported totals since the conflict began.
In another recent development, a Ukrainian drone strike reportedly triggered a fire at an oil refinery located southeast of Moscow last week. The incident added to growing concerns over repeated attacks targeting energy-related facilities inside Russian territory.
As aerial operations continue to intensify, both Russia and Ukraine remain engaged in increasingly sophisticated drone campaigns that have expanded far beyond traditional front-line combat zones.
