TrumpRx –The White House on Tuesday announced the rollout of TrumpRx.gov, a new federal website designed to help Americans access sharply reduced prices on a wide range of commonly prescribed medications, marking what President Donald Trump described as a historic shift in how drug prices are set in the United States.

Speaking at an event held at the White House, Trump said the platform allows consumers to immediately obtain discounted prices through downloadable coupons that can be used at participating pharmacies across the country. He framed the move as a long-overdue correction to global pricing practices that, in his view, have placed an unfair burden on American patients for decades.

A pricing model tied to global benchmarks

According to the administration, the initiative is built around a “most favored nation” pricing framework. Under this approach, the United States would pay no more for a prescription drug than the lowest price charged for the same medication in any other country.

Trump said the policy ensures that American consumers are no longer charged significantly more than patients abroad for identical treatments. He argued that the change would bring immediate financial relief to households struggling with medication costs while also reshaping the global pharmaceutical market.

Drugmakers sign on to new agreements

The President stated that nearly all of the world’s largest pharmaceutical manufacturers have already agreed to participate in the new pricing structure. He added that these commitments also require future medicines introduced in the U.S. market to follow the same lowest-price standard offered internationally.

Administration officials indicated that additional companies are expected to join the program, expanding the range of medications available through the website in the coming months.

Tariffs cited as leverage in negotiations

Trump linked the agreements directly to trade policy, saying that tariffs played a key role in persuading foreign governments and pharmaceutical firms to accept the pricing model. He said drug prices in other countries could rise as a result, but maintained that the shift was necessary to stop Americans from absorbing disproportionate costs.

The administration has repeatedly argued that trade pressure was essential to achieving what it calls fair pricing for U.S. consumers.

Direct access for consumers begins immediately

Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Mehmet Oz said the discounts are now accessible to the public without delay. He encouraged Americans to review prices on the site before purchasing medications, noting that affordability has been a significant barrier for many patients.

Oz said the new system aims to reduce the number of people who leave pharmacies without their prescriptions due to high costs, calling the initiative a practical solution to a widespread problem.

How the website works

U.S. Chief Design Officer Joe Gebbia demonstrated the site’s features, showing how users can search for a medication, download a digital or printable coupon, and redeem it either in-store or through approved mail-order pharmacies. At launch, the platform includes more than 40 medications, with regular updates planned to add more drugs.

The White House confirmed that initial participants include major manufacturers such as AstraZeneca, Eli Lilly, EMD Serono, Novo Nordisk, and Pfizer.

Personal impact highlighted at event

The announcement also included testimony from a military spouse who said lower prices for fertility treatments could determine whether families like hers are able to continue in vitro fertilization procedures. She described the discounts as potentially life-changing for patients facing difficult financial choices.

Broader economic and legislative goals

Trump said the initiative is already encouraging pharmaceutical companies to invest in domestic manufacturing, citing commitments to build new production facilities in the United States. He argued that these investments would create jobs and improve national security by reducing reliance on overseas supply chains.

The program follows an executive order signed in May 2025 directing federal agencies to pursue the pricing model, as well as subsequent agreements with drugmakers. In January 2026, Trump also urged Congress to pass legislation that would formalize the policy and expand transparency across the healthcare system.
