Trump : 10 US President Donald Trump said that if nothing is done, China or Russia might gain a strategic footing close to US territory and stated that the US will take action to safeguard Greenland if needed.

Trump denied claims that the current military arrangements were adequate, telling reporters that Greenland’s position made it vital to US national security.

Trump said, “We’re going to do something on Greenland.” “Whether or not they enjoy it.”

Although he made it apparent that other options were still available, the president said that the United States favored a negotiated settlement.

Trump said, “I want to make a deal the easy way, you know.” “But we’ll have to do it the hard way if we don’t do it the easy way.”

Trump maintained that in order to provide long-term security, ownership—not leases or short-term agreements—was required.

He said, “Because we defend it when we own it.” “Leases are not defended in the same manner. You must take responsibility for it.

He said that inaction would encourage US adversaries to enter the area.

Trump said, “China or Russia will annex Greenland if we don’t do it.” “That won’t occur.”

Trump said that there was already evidence of Chinese and Russian military operations close to Greenland.

“If you look outside of Greenland right now, you can see Chinese and Russian destroyers,” he claimed. “Russian submarines are everywhere.”

According to him, there would be an intolerable danger if any nation were allowed to take control.

“Neither China nor Russia will be our neighbors,” Trump said.

According to the president, present security challenges are more important than Denmark’s historical claims.

“They don’t own the land just because they had a boat land there 500 years ago,” he said.

Trump emphasized that US interests will win out even though he stated he liked Denmark and called it an ally.

“I like Denmark,” Trump said. “They’ve treated me really well.”

Additionally, he connected the Greenland problem to NATO, claiming that US leadership was crucial to the alliance.

Trump said, “I saved NATO.” “NATO wouldn’t exist today if it weren’t for me.”

Regardless of the strategy, Trump said that China and Russia will not be permitted to build any kind of foothold in Greenland.

He said, “We will not permit China or Russia to occupy Greenland.” “If we don’t, that’s what will happen.”

The United States is still ready to collaboration, he said, but not at the price of security.

Trump said, “I like Russia and I like China.” “However, I don’t want them to live next door in Greenland.”

Due to geopolitical rivalry and the expansion of Arctic maritime routes and military access brought about by climate change, Greenland, an independent region of Denmark, has become more strategically significant.
