The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that it launched another round of strikes against Iran, marking the ninth consecutive night of military operations. According to the command, the attacks began at 7 p.m. Eastern Time and were aimed at reducing military capabilities that Washington says have been used to threaten commercial shipping and civilian mariners passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
CENTCOM stated that the operations are part of an ongoing campaign designed to weaken Iran’s ability to conduct attacks affecting one of the world’s most strategically important maritime routes. The US military has maintained that safeguarding international shipping remains a key objective of the operation.
Trump Highlights Military Objectives
Speaking to reporters, US President Donald Trump said Iran had suffered significant military losses following the American strikes. He asserted that Tehran had been “very badly damaged” and claimed that the United States now held control over security in the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump also said the military campaign was intended to honor American service members who were killed during recent attacks in West Asia. Addressing concerns about Iran’s weapons program, he stated that the operations were focused on eliminating any possibility of the country developing a nuclear-capable missile.
Iranian Media Reports Explosions and Defensive Response
Iranian state broadcaster Press TV reported multiple explosions in several locations, including Mahshahr, Imam Khomeini Port, and the city of Tabriz. It also said air defense systems were activated in Konarak in southern Iran following the reported attacks.
The broadcaster further claimed that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) carried out a retaliatory strike against a US special operations command center in the Al-Tanf region of Syria. According to Press TV, the IRGC described the operation as a response to repeated American actions and maintained that Iran continued to exercise control over the Strait of Hormuz.
Kuwait and Maritime Authorities Respond to Security Threats
Amid the escalating conflict, Kuwait’s armed forces announced that their air defense systems intercepted what they described as hostile drones. Military officials said defensive operations were underway following what they referred to as Iranian aggression and urged residents to follow official safety instructions.
Separately, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported a maritime incident off the coast of Oman. A vessel caught fire near Kumzar, although authorities said the cause of the incident had not yet been determined. The advisory highlighted continuing concerns about maritime security as military activity increases across the region.
Press TV also reported that at least three explosions were heard in Ras Al Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates, though independent confirmation of those claims was not immediately available.
CENTCOM Provides Update on US Military Casualties
CENTCOM also released an update regarding American personnel affected during recent operations. The command said military teams had recovered unidentified remains at the site of an Iranian attack in Jordan that took place on July 17. Officials noted that forensic examinations were continuing to confirm the identity of the remains.
In a separate incident, the US military reported that an American service member was killed in northern Iraq during the controlled disposal of unexploded ordnance linked to a downed Iranian one-way attack drone. Another service member sustained minor injuries and is receiving medical treatment.
The command said it would withhold further personal details until families of the affected personnel had been formally notified.
Naval Operations Continue in the Gulf
CENTCOM also stated that American naval forces continue enforcing a blockade-related mission involving Iran. According to the command, six commercial vessels had been redirected and one vessel had been disabled by July 19 as part of measures intended to ensure compliance with ongoing maritime operations.
The latest exchanges underscore the rapidly worsening security situation across West Asia, where military actions, retaliatory claims, and concerns over the safety of international shipping continue to raise fears of a broader regional conflict.
