Iravani accused US President Donald Trump of openly inciting violence in Iran in a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Somali UN ambassador Abukar Dahir Osman, who is the Security Council’s rotating president for January. She cited Trump’s post on the social media platform Truth Social, saying, “Iranian Patriots, KEEP PROTESTING — TAKE OVER YOUR INSTITUTIONS!!! … HELP IS ON ITS WAY.”

He has canceled “all meetings” with Iranian officials, Trump said on Tuesday.

The declaration was made a day after the president said that any nation conducting business with Iran will be subject to a 25% levy on any transactions with the US.

Trump said that violence against Iranian demonstrators was a factor in the decision to suspend diplomatic relations when speaking at the Detroit Economic Club. He said, “I’ve canceled all meetings with the Iranian officials until the senseless killing of protesters stops.”

He spoke to what he referred to as “Iranian patriots,” exhorting them to continue their demonstrations and to track down the perpetrators of violence. Trump said, “To all Iranian patriots, keep protesting.” “If at all possible, seize control of your institutions and preserve the identities of the murderers and abusers.”

Trump asserted that accountability will follow despite the fact that reports on fatalities in Iran differed. He said, “I hear five different sets of numbers.” “One fatality is excessive.” He forewarned violent offenders that there will be repercussions.

Although the Trump administration would not rule out military options if required, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Monday that negotiation is still the preferred course of action for the United States to deal with Iran.
