ImranKhan – PTI Moves Supreme Court on Medical Access
ImranKhan – The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has approached the Supreme Court seeking permission for former Prime Minister Imran Khan to receive medical treatment at a hospital of his choosing and to consult his personal doctors. The move comes amid renewed concerns over his health and the conditions under which he is being treated.

Petition Filed After Hospital Visit
The application was submitted on Wednesday by senior PTI lawyer Sardar Latif Khosa, shortly after Imran Khan was taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for a follow-up examination related to an eye condition. According to reports in Dawn, the petition was filed on Khan’s behalf and names the Islamabad district election commissioner as a respondent. The plea references the Toshakhana case, the matter in which Khan was first arrested in 2022.
In the court filing, PTI has requested that Khan be transferred without delay to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for specialized care from a retina expert. The petition argues that access to a facility of his preference is essential to ensure proper and transparent medical treatment.
Demand for Access to Personal Physicians
A key component of the plea is the request to allow Khan to consult his long-time physicians, Dr. Faisal Sultan and Dr. Aasim Yusuf. The petition states that these doctors should be permitted to participate in all stages of examination and treatment. PTI maintains that their involvement would provide continuity of care and greater confidence in the medical process.
The application also asks that Khan’s family members be informed about his medical condition and granted reasonable access during hospital visits. In addition, it seeks attested copies of all medical reports and diagnostic results to be provided to his legal counsel to ensure clarity about his health status.
Concerns Over Transparency
The petition raises objections to what it describes as limited disclosure regarding the former prime minister’s recent medical examinations. It states that details of procedures carried out at PIMS have not been fully shared with his family or independent medical professionals.
Khosa, in the filing, highlighted Khan’s age—73—and referred to what he described as declining health as a matter of serious concern. The plea argues that conducting medical evaluations without broader disclosure has led to uncertainty and apprehension among his supporters and relatives.
The court has been asked to ensure that Khan’s lawyer is granted appropriate access so that he can receive updated instructions for effective representation in ongoing legal proceedings.
Eye Condition and Earlier Procedure
Public attention on Khan’s health intensified in January when reports emerged that he had been diagnosed with Central Retinal Vein Occlusion (CRVO), a condition affecting blood flow in the retina that can impair vision. His initial medical procedure took place on January 24, though official confirmation came several days later.
Since then, PTI leaders have repeatedly called for greater openness regarding his medical care. They allege that adequate facilities and independent consultations have not been consistently provided. The government has denied these claims, maintaining that all necessary treatment is being arranged in line with medical advice.
Political and Legal Context
The latest petition unfolds against the backdrop of ongoing legal cases involving the PTI founder. The Toshakhana case remains central to his legal challenges and has shaped much of the recent political debate in Pakistan.
Khan was transported to PIMS in the early hours of Tuesday for what officials described as a routine follow-up examination. No detailed public statement about the outcome of that visit has yet been issued.
The Supreme Court is now expected to consider the PTI’s requests, which focus on access to preferred medical care, involvement of personal physicians, and improved communication with family and legal representatives. The matter adds another layer to the broader legal and political developments surrounding the former prime minister.
