CinemaUnity – Veteran Bollywood actor Boman Irani has strongly spoken against the long-running debate surrounding North Indian and South Indian cinema, saying the industry should focus more on storytelling and unity rather than regional differences.
The actor shared his views during a recent interaction while discussing the changing landscape of Indian films and the growing acceptance of cinema across languages. According to Boman, audiences today are embracing good stories regardless of where they come from, making the old regional divide increasingly irrelevant.
Boman Irani Calls for Unity in Indian Cinema
Boman Irani stated that he no longer sees value in the constant comparison between North and South Indian film industries. He emphasized that despite cultural and linguistic differences, people across the country share the same emotions and passion for cinema.
The actor explained that language naturally changes from one region to another, but that does not separate people from each other. He pointed out that even Hindi differs across cities and states, yet the essence of storytelling and human connection remains unchanged.
According to Boman, cinema has always been about emotions, relationships, and experiences that audiences everywhere can relate to. He believes films should unite viewers rather than divide them based on geography or language preferences.

The actor mentioned that although the movie has roots in Hyderabad and carries a regional flavor, its team is promoting it in Mumbai because Indian cinema now belongs to a much wider audience. He added that adapting to different languages becomes easier when actors understand the emotional meaning behind every dialogue.
Boman said that performers should focus more on the feelings and intentions within a scene rather than just memorizing words. In his view, understanding the soul of a dialogue allows actors to connect naturally with audiences, no matter which language they speak.

The actor further explained that acting goes beyond vocabulary or pronunciation. He noted that performers often think emotionally in their own language while delivering lines in another language, and this process helps create authentic performances.
