Crime – Elderly Woman’s Disappearance in Palakkad Leads to Murder Investigation Breakthrough

Crime –The disappearance of a 66-year-old woman from Kerala’s Palakkad district has taken a disturbing turn after investigators uncovered what they describe as a brutal murder allegedly committed during a robbery. Police claim the victim was killed for the two gold nose studs she was wearing, and that the suspects later attempted to destroy evidence by burning and burying her body. The case has drawn widespread attention because of the alleged violence involved and the seemingly minor value of the stolen ornaments.

Palakkad elderly woman murder case breakthrough

Missing Woman Case Ends in Murder Probe

The victim, identified as Sarasammal, a resident of Attayampathy near Kozhinjampara, had been reported missing on June 10. Her disappearance prompted an extensive investigation by the Kozhinjampara Police, who spent several weeks examining leads and gathering evidence before making a significant breakthrough.

Investigators eventually detained a local young man in connection with the case. During questioning, police said the suspect allegedly admitted to his involvement, enabling officers to piece together the events surrounding the woman’s disappearance and death. The confession reportedly helped investigators recover important evidence linked to the crime.

Alleged Robbery Turned Fatal

According to the police investigation, the accused was allegedly accompanied by a 17-year-old boy when they entered Sarasammal’s residence with the intention of stealing her jewellery. Officials believe the situation turned violent after the elderly woman resisted the alleged robbery.

Police allege that the woman was attacked multiple times with a sharp weapon before the suspects removed the two gold nose studs she was wearing. Investigators believe the assault resulted in her death inside the house, after which the accused allegedly attempted to conceal the crime.

Police Detail Efforts to Destroy Evidence

Investigators said the suspects allegedly placed the victim’s body inside a drum and set it on fire in an effort to eliminate evidence. After the body was partially burned, it was reportedly transported from the house and buried at another location.

Police stated that the main accused’s alleged confession played a crucial role in locating evidence and reconstructing the sequence of events. Forensic experts are now examining physical evidence collected during the investigation to verify the statements made during interrogation.

Investigation Continues Into Juvenile’s Role

Authorities have confirmed that the 17-year-old boy has also been taken into custody. Since the second suspect is a juvenile, legal proceedings involving him will follow the provisions applicable under juvenile justice laws.

Investigators are working to determine the exact role played by the teenager and whether the crime had been planned in advance. They are also examining whether the incident began as a theft and later escalated into murder when the victim resisted.

Forensic Examination and Evidence Collection Underway

Police teams continue to search for the weapon allegedly used in the attack and the stolen gold ornaments. Officials said forensic analysis and scientific examination of the recovered evidence will be essential in strengthening the case.

Investigators have not ruled out the possibility of adding further charges as additional evidence becomes available. Authorities said the investigation remains active, with several aspects of the case still under verification.

Community Shocked by the Allegations

The incident has left residents of Kozhinjampara and nearby areas deeply disturbed. Locals have expressed shock over the allegation that an elderly woman was allegedly killed for two small pieces of jewellery. Police have urged the public not to speculate while the investigation continues, emphasizing that all allegations will ultimately be tested through forensic findings and judicial proceedings.
