CinemaHeritage – Veteran actor Anupam Kher recently revisited one of Indian cinema’s most memorable shooting spots, recalling emotional memories connected to the 1995 blockbuster “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge” during a new filming schedule at the same railway station.
The actor, who portrayed Shah Rukh Khan’s father Dharamvir Malhotra in the celebrated romantic drama, shared a video from the location and reflected on the lasting impact of the famous sequence featuring Raj and Simran. According to Kher, returning to the site after several decades felt deeply emotional and almost surreal, as though time had briefly stopped.
Revisiting a Landmark Moment in Indian Cinema
Speaking in the video, Anupam Kher described the railway station as a place forever linked to one of the most recognised moments in Hindi cinema history. He recalled the sequence where Kajol’s character Simran runs toward the moving train after her father, played by late actor Amrish Puri, encourages her to follow her heart. Shah Rukh Khan’s Raj then stretches out his hand to help her aboard, creating a scene that remains unforgettable for generations of movie lovers.
Kher also remembered portions of his own scenes shot at the location. He explained that several action and dramatic moments involving other characters from the film were filmed there as well, though the surroundings have changed significantly since the original shoot.
