LarsenAndToubro – L&T Wins Major EPC Contracts to Expand India’s Mining Sector
LarsenAndToubro –Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has strengthened its presence in India’s metals and mining industry after securing multiple large engineering and construction contracts from leading domestic companies. The latest project wins span the iron ore, steel and zinc sectors, highlighting continued investment in industrial capacity as the country pushes to meet future infrastructure and manufacturing requirements.

Major Iron Ore Expansion Project in Chhattisgarh
The company announced on Monday that its Metals & Minerals business has received several large-scale orders from both public and private sector organisations. Among the most significant contracts is an order linked to the expansion programme of India’s largest iron ore producer, which aims to increase its production capacity to 100 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) by the year 2030.
As part of this assignment, L&T will execute Package BE-01C for an 18-MTPA Iron Ore Handling Plant in Chhattisgarh. The project includes detailed engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning of a downhill conveyor system, a screening facility, stockyard infrastructure, yard machinery, a Rapid Waggon Loading System (RWLS), along with supporting auxiliary systems required for efficient operations.
Steel Plant Capacity to Increase in West Bengal
In another important development, the company has secured a contract from a public sector Navratna enterprise for the expansion of an existing steel plant in West Bengal. The facility’s production capacity will be increased from 2.5 MTPA to 7.1 MTPA under the expansion programme.
L&T will undertake several Design & Build assignments as well as Balance of Plant packages for the project. These works are expected to support the plant’s operational enhancement while contributing to India’s growing steel manufacturing capabilities.
Private Sector Zinc Processing Facility Added to Order Book
The engineering major has also received an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract from a leading private-sector metals producer for setting up a zinc processing plant.
The project scope includes engineering design, procurement of equipment, installation, commissioning and all associated on-site services required for successful completion. The addition of this contract further expands L&T’s involvement across both ferrous and non-ferrous metal industries.
Company Highlights Long-Term Industry Commitment
Commenting on the latest order wins, L&T Chairman and Managing Director S. N. Subrahmanyan said the contracts reinforce the company’s established position in executing large and technically demanding EPC projects within the metals and minerals sector.
He noted that as India continues investing in expanding its mining and metal production capacity to support long-term economic development, L&T remains committed to partnering with leading enterprises in building modern industrial infrastructure across the country.
T. Kumaresan, Senior Vice President and Head of Utilities & Metals, said the new orders demonstrate continued customer confidence in the company’s engineering expertise and project execution capabilities. He added that the projects further strengthen L&T’s role in developing India’s mining and metals infrastructure while maintaining high standards of quality, safety and sustainability.
Order Value Classification and Market Update
Under L&T’s internal classification, a mega order carries a value ranging between Rs 10,000 crore and Rs 15,000 crore. While the company confirmed that the newly secured projects fall within this category, it did not disclose the individual financial value of each contract.
Following the announcement, Larsen & Toubro shares were trading at Rs 3,821 on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) at the time of reporting, as investors tracked developments surrounding the company’s expanding project portfolio.
