AdaniGreen – Adani Green Crosses 20 GW Renewable Energy Capacity Milestone in India

AdaniGreen – Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) has achieved a major milestone by crossing 20 gigawatts (GW) of operational renewable energy capacity, strengthening its position among India’s leading clean energy developers.

Adani green crosses 20gw renewable capacity

Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) has announced that its operational renewable energy portfolio has exceeded 20 gigawatts (GW), marking one of the biggest achievements in India’s clean energy sector. According to the company, most of this capacity has been developed through greenfield projects, reflecting its focus on building new renewable infrastructure across the country. The company also stated that it added 5,051 megawatts (MW) during FY26, describing it as the fastest and largest annual expansion of renewable energy capacity by any company in India.

Annual Clean Power Output Reaches Significant Level

The company said its renewable energy assets now generate more than 52 billion units of clean electricity every year. This level of production is estimated to account for nearly three percent of India’s annual electricity consumption. AGEL noted that the output is sufficient to power New York City for an entire year or meet the combined annual electricity needs of Mumbai and New Delhi, highlighting the growing contribution of renewable energy to the country’s power supply.

Diverse Renewable Energy Portfolio

AGEL’s operational capacity includes approximately 14.2 GW of solar power, 2.7 GW of wind energy, and 3.3 GW of hybrid wind-solar projects. Alongside generation assets, the company has also commissioned Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) with a total capacity of 3.55 GWh. These storage facilities are expected to improve grid stability and support the delivery of reliable renewable electricity throughout the day.

Renewable Energy Focus Highlighted in London

The announcement follows the inaugural Adani Green Energy Dialogue, held on June 26 during London Climate Action Week at the Science Museum in London. During the event, the company underlined the importance of accelerating electrification through renewable energy backed by large-scale battery storage. It emphasized that such an approach can enhance energy security, improve affordability, and provide dependable round-the-clock clean electricity for consumers and industries.

Growth Achieved Within a Decade

The company pointed out that the latest milestone has been reached within ten years of commissioning its first renewable energy project at Kamuthi in Tamil Nadu in 2016. Since then, AGEL has expanded rapidly through greenfield developments, making it one of the country’s fastest-growing renewable energy companies.

Executive Director Sagar Adani said that crossing the 20 GW mark reflects disciplined execution, long-term planning, and strong collaboration with employees and business partners. He added that the company’s renewable electricity generation is now nearly equivalent to the combined annual power demand of Mumbai and New Delhi, contributing to India’s energy security while supporting the national transition toward cleaner energy sources.

Khavda Project Drives Future Expansion

The company’s next phase of expansion is centered on the Khavda renewable energy project in Kutch, Gujarat. Spread across 538 square kilometres of barren land, the project is planned to have a total capacity of 30 GW and is described as the world’s largest renewable energy project. The site covers an area nearly equal to Mumbai and around five times the size of Paris.

According to the company, about 9.5 GW of solar capacity has already been commissioned at Khavda, representing more than 30 percent of the project’s planned total capacity. Once completed, the project is expected to play a key role in supporting India’s renewable energy ambitions and strengthening the country’s transition toward sustainable electricity generation.
