Politics – Pappu Yadav Seeks Police Action After Alleged Death Threat Complaint
Politics – Independent MP from Purnea, Rajesh Ranjan, widely known as Pappu Yadav, has approached the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in New Delhi, alleging that he and his family received serious death threats through his official website. In his written complaint, the parliamentarian urged the police to take immediate legal action by registering a First Information Report (FIR), identifying those responsible, and ensuring their prompt arrest. He has also requested stronger security arrangements for himself and his family.

Complaint Alleges Threats Through Official Website
According to the complaint submitted to Delhi Police, Pappu Yadav claimed that unidentified individuals sent threatening messages warning that he would be shot and that his family would also be targeted. Describing the matter as a serious security concern, the MP asked law enforcement authorities to investigate the source of the messages without delay and strengthen protective measures around his family.
The police have not publicly announced the outcome of the complaint or confirmed any arrests related to the alleged threats at the time of reporting.
Earlier Remarks on Women Triggered Political Backlash
The latest development comes months after Pappu Yadav faced widespread criticism over comments he made about women in politics during a press conference. His remarks sparked a political controversy, with leaders from different parties expressing strong objections.
Janata Dal (United) leader Rina Choudhary had responded sharply after an FIR was filed against the MP. She described his statements as offensive and disrespectful toward women, demanding that he issue a public apology. According to her, the remarks had deeply hurt women not only in Bihar but across the country.
Rina Choudhary Questions the MP’s Remarks
While speaking to the media after the FIR was registered, Rina Choudhary argued that the comments were unacceptable for a public representative. She said the statements insulted women and questioned whether similar remarks would be acceptable if directed toward members of Pappu Yadav’s own family, including his mother and wife, both of whom have been associated with politics.
She further stated that a person making such comments should publicly apologise and refrain from repeating similar statements in the future, adding that such remarks undermine the dignity of women participating in public life.
Controversial Statement Led to Wider Debate
The controversy began when Pappu Yadav addressed the Women’s Reservation Amendment Bill during a press interaction. While discussing the status of women in society, he said that although women are often revered in India, they continue to face discrimination and lack genuine respect. During the same interaction, he made remarks suggesting that a large number of women could not succeed in politics without compromising themselves, a statement that drew widespread criticism from political leaders and social groups.
His comments quickly became the subject of public debate, with several organisations and political figures describing the remarks as objectionable and inappropriate.
Women’s Commission Took Suo Motu Cognisance
Following the controversy, the Bihar State Commission for Women took suo motu cognisance of the statements. The commission initiated action after the remarks generated significant public reaction and raised concerns regarding the portrayal of women in political life.
The latest complaint regarding the alleged death threats now places Pappu Yadav at the centre of another significant development, this time involving his personal security. Authorities are expected to examine the allegations and determine the appropriate legal course based on the findings of the investigation.
