BSP – Mayawati Signals Growing Upper-Caste Support Ahead of UP Polls

BSP –  Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati on Monday asserted that support for her party is steadily increasing among Brahmins and other upper-caste communities in Uttar Pradesh. According to her, this emerging political trend has caused concern among rival parties as preparations for the next Assembly elections gather pace.

Candidate Selection Process Underway

In a statement shared on social media platform X, Mayawati said the BSP has already started selecting potential candidates from upper-caste groups, with particular attention being given to members of the Brahmin community. She maintained that the party is witnessing a positive response from these sections of society, which is influencing the political atmosphere in the state.

The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister noted that the party’s recent efforts have generated anxiety among its opponents, especially the Samajwadi Party. She suggested that such reactions are understandable because many observers are drawing comparisons with the political situation that existed before the 2007 Assembly elections.

Reference to the 2007 Election Outcome

Mayawati recalled that the BSP secured a full majority government in Uttar Pradesh in 2007 with support from a broad social coalition that included Brahmins. She expressed confidence that a similar level of backing could once again place the party in a strong position in future elections.

According to her, many upper-caste voters continue to trust the BSP’s leadership and policies. She argued that the party has consistently worked to provide representation and opportunities across different social groups, helping it maintain support among diverse communities.

Focus on Inclusive Representation

The BSP chief stated that the interests of Brahmins and other upper-caste communities have been protected effectively within the party’s organisational structure. She highlighted the party’s long-standing philosophy of “Sarvajan Hitay, Sarvajan Sukhay,” which promotes welfare and participation for all sections of society.

Mayawati also alleged that members of these communities have, over the years, experienced disappointment and insecurity under governments led by other political parties. She claimed that this sentiment is contributing to the growing interest in the BSP among upper-caste voters.

Ticket Distribution Across Communities

Discussing the party’s election strategy, Mayawati said ticket distribution would not be limited to one community. Alongside Brahmins, candidates from Kshatriya, Vaishya and several other social groups would also be considered based on their preparedness and ability to contribute to the party’s electoral efforts.

She explained that the BSP follows a principle of providing participation in proportion to organisational readiness and commitment. The objective, she said, is to ensure fair representation while strengthening the party’s presence across regions of Uttar Pradesh.

Welfare and Governance Remain Key Priorities

Mayawati emphasized that the BSP’s approach differs from parties that focus on targeted political promises for select groups. She said the party considers it a constitutional responsibility to work for the welfare of the entire population rather than a limited section of society.

She further stated that BSP policies are designed around public welfare, social justice and effective governance. According to her, the party has consistently supported measures aimed at maintaining law and order and controlling criminal activities, which remain important concerns for voters across the state.
