Attack – Bihar Education Officials Injured After Assault Near Ara Overbridge
Attack – Three officials associated with the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) were injured after an alleged assault by a group of unidentified men near the Ratanpur overbridge in Bihar’s Ara town. The incident, which took place under the jurisdiction of the Mufassil police station, has prompted a police investigation while education department employees have demanded swift action against those responsible.
Officials Reportedly Stopped While Returning From Office
According to information shared by the police, Rahul Kumar, who serves as the District Programme Manager under the District Education Officer’s office, was travelling home with two colleagues after completing official duties on Thursday evening. While passing near the Ratanpur overbridge, another vehicle allegedly intercepted their car. Investigators said the occupants of the second vehicle overtook the officials’ car before confronting them.
The attackers are alleged to have assaulted the three officials using sticks and wooden clubs. During the incident, the vehicle carrying the education department staff was also reportedly damaged before the assailants fled from the location.
Local Residents Responded After the Incident
The attack created panic among people in the surrounding area. Residents reportedly rushed towards the scene after hearing the disturbance, but the alleged attackers had already escaped before help arrived. Witnesses later assisted the injured officials, who were shifted to Sadar Hospital for medical care.
Hospital sources indicated that the Block Programme Manager and another staff member sustained serious injuries during the assault. Medical teams are continuing their treatment, while the condition of all three officials is being monitored.
Education Department Employees Stage Protest
The incident triggered strong reactions from employees attached to the District Education Officer’s office. Soon after the attack, officials and staff members gathered at the Mufassil police station and staged a protest, urging authorities to identify and arrest those involved without delay.
The demonstrators called for strict legal action, stating that attacks on government officials carrying out official duties raise serious concerns about employee safety. They also sought a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Injured Officials Describe Sudden Assault
According to statements given by the injured officials, they were travelling back from the office shortly after 6 p.m. when more than half a dozen people allegedly surrounded and attacked them without warning. They claimed the assailants appeared to have intended to cause serious harm.
The officials further stated that they managed to escape only after nearby residents intervened and came to their assistance. Their statements have been recorded as part of the ongoing investigation.
District Education Officer Seeks Swift Action
District Education Officer Manvendra Kumar Rai later visited the Mufassil police station following the incident. He confirmed that the District Programme Manager and two members of the education department staff had been attacked while returning from work.
Rai said the injured officials were receiving medical treatment and expressed confidence that the police would identify those responsible. He also hoped the accused would be arrested at the earliest after the investigation progresses.

Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the alleged assault. Officers are examining the sequence of events, collecting available evidence, and working to establish the motive behind the attack.
