AAP – Raghav Chadha Meets PM Modi as Punjab Politics Heats Up Ahead of 2027 Polls

AAP –Former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday morning, with the two leaders discussing the political situation in Punjab. The meeting took place less than six months before the state is scheduled to go to the polls in 2027.

Meeting Comes Amid Rising Political Activity

Chadha’s meeting with Modi came a day after Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal also met the Prime Minister. The back-to-back meetings have taken place as political parties in Punjab begin preparing more actively for the upcoming Assembly contest.

Following his meeting with Modi, Chadha described the interaction as “a morning to cherish”. In a post on X, he said he had the opportunity for a detailed discussion with the Prime Minister and expressed gratitude for the time, guidance and insights shared during the meeting.

Chadha Among Former AAP MPs Joining BJP

The meeting is significant in the context of Chadha’s recent political move. He was among eight former AAP Rajya Sabha members who joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), marking a notable shift in political alignments involving Punjab leaders.

The former AAP MPs had been associated with the party’s representation in the Rajya Sabha before moving to the BJP. Their entry into the ruling party has added another dimension to the political calculations in Punjab ahead of the 2027 elections.

Former AAP MPs Meet PM Modi Over Breakfast

The interaction between the former AAP MPs and Modi was not limited to Chadha’s Friday meeting. On Wednesday, the Prime Minister hosted a breakfast meeting for 37 Rajya Sabha members, including the former AAP MPs who had recently joined the BJP.

Vikramjit Singh Sahney, another former AAP Rajya Sabha MP who switched to the BJP, also spoke about the meeting. In a post on X, Sahney said he was inspired by Modi’s leadership and vision and expressed his intention to contribute towards the country’s development.

Punjab Set for a Fresh Political Contest

The developments come at a time when political activity in Punjab is expected to intensify. With the 2027 Assembly elections approaching, parties are likely to focus increasingly on organisational preparations, leadership roles and electoral strategy.

Chadha is also expected to play a more active role in Punjab politics in the coming months, according to sources cited in the report. His move to the BJP and subsequent engagement with the Prime Minister could therefore become relevant as the party strengthens its political presence in the state.

The 2027 Punjab Assembly election is expected to see a closely watched contest involving the BJP, AAP, Shiromani Akali Dal and other political forces. For now, the recent meetings and changes in political affiliations indicate that preparations for the next electoral battle are already gathering pace.
