Cyber Fraud – Man Held for Posing as IGI Airport Employee in Job Scam
Cyber Fraud –The Cyber Police Station of North-East District has arrested a 32-year-old man in connection with an alleged job fraud in which he reportedly posed as an employee of Indira Gandhi International Airport and collected money from a woman on the promise of securing employment for her son.
Complaint Led to Cyber Fraud Investigation
The case came to light after Somvati, a resident of Shiv Vihar in Delhi, approached the police and reported that she had been cheated by a person she met through Facebook.
Following her complaint, an E-FIR, numbered 00061/2025, was registered on December 3, 2025, at the Cyber Police Station, North-East District. The case was registered under Sections 318(4), 319 and 340 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Accused Allegedly Promised Cabin Crew Position
According to the complaint, the woman first came in contact with the accused through Facebook in July 2024. The man allegedly claimed to be employed at IGI Airport and told her that he could help her son obtain a cabin crew job.
Police said the accused gradually gained the woman’s confidence before asking her to make payments for different recruitment-related requirements. The amounts were allegedly sought in the name of security deposits, documentation and other formalities connected with the proposed appointment.
Between September 17 and December 26, 2024, the woman transferred a total of Rs 3,03,120 to the accused through 16 transactions using UPI and PhonePe.
Contact Was Cut After Money Was Paid
The promised employment, however, did not materialise, according to the complaint. The accused allegedly stopped communicating with the woman after receiving the payments.
Police said he blocked her on Facebook and stopped answering her calls. His subsequent disappearance prompted the complainant to approach the authorities, leading to a cyber fraud investigation.
Technical Evidence Helped Police Trace Suspect
Investigators examined digital information and financial transactions to establish the trail of the alleged fraud. A team comprising Head Constable Nitin Kumar, Head Constable Ankit Tomar and Constable Saurabh worked under the supervision of Inspector Rahul Kumar, SHO of the Cyber Police Station, North-East District.
Police said technical analysis, digital surveillance and field verification were used to identify the suspect and establish his location.
Accused Arrested From Madhu Vihar
The suspect was traced and arrested on August 6, 2026, from Madhu Vihar in Delhi. At the time, police said, he was working as a security guard at a Blinkit store.
The arrested man has been identified as Rajeev Kumar, 32, son of Hariram and a resident of Mandawali, Delhi. According to police, he does not have any previous criminal record.
Police Detail Alleged Modus Operandi
During questioning, the accused allegedly admitted to posing as an IGI Airport employee while approaching people seeking jobs through Facebook. Police said he used the false identity to make his claims appear credible before asking victims for money linked to recruitment procedures.
Investigators further alleged that, after receiving payments, he would cut off communication with victims, remove Facebook conversations and destroy the SIM card used in the alleged offence. Police said the money was subsequently used for personal expenses and repayment of debts.
Mobile Phone and Documents Recovered
During the investigation, police recovered a mobile phone allegedly used in the offence. Bank-related documents connected with the disputed financial transactions were also recovered, according to the police.
The investigation remains in progress, and authorities are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the alleged fraud and the financial transactions involved.
