Encounter – Police Operation Leaves History-Sheeter Injured, Accomplice Arrested in Jaunpur
Encounter – Police officials in Uttar Pradesh’s Jaunpur district have arrested two alleged criminals following an encounter during a vehicle checking drive. One of the accused, identified as a history-sheeter with multiple criminal cases across several districts, suffered a bullet injury after allegedly firing at the police team. The second accused was taken into custody without injury during the operation.
Police Vehicle Check Turns Into Armed Confrontation
According to officials, the incident took place on Friday within the Khuthan police station limits. A police team was conducting routine vehicle inspections as part of an ongoing campaign targeting wanted criminals. During the checking drive near the Suithakhurd canal culvert, officers noticed two men travelling on a motorcycle and signalled them to stop for verification.
Instead of halting, the suspects allegedly attempted to flee and opened fire on the police personnel. Officers responded in self-defence, leading to an exchange of fire in which one of the accused was struck in the left leg. Both suspects were subsequently brought under police control at the scene.
Injured Accused Shifted for Medical Treatment
The injured man was identified as Rinku Yadav, also known as Omprakash Yadav, a resident of the Sarpathan area in Jaunpur district. Police immediately transported him to the Community Health Centre in Khuthan, where doctors provided initial treatment. After first aid, he was referred to a higher medical facility for further care.
The second accused, identified as Satyam Lona, alias Lallu, is a resident of Shahpur Firozpur village under the Jalalpur police station jurisdiction in Ambedkar Nagar district. He was arrested during the same operation and remains in police custody.
Weapons and Motorcycle Seized During Operation
Following the arrests, police recovered a country-made pistol, one live cartridge, one spent cartridge case, and the motorcycle allegedly used by the accused. The recovered items have been seized as part of the investigation and will be produced as evidence during legal proceedings.
Officials stated that the recovery strengthens the case being prepared against the two accused under relevant provisions of law.
History of Criminal Cases Across Several Districts
Circle Officer Girendra Singh of Shahganj said that Rinku Yadav is listed as a history-sheeter at the Sarpathan police station. According to police records, he is facing more than three dozen criminal cases registered in multiple districts, including Jaunpur, Azamgarh, Ambedkar Nagar, Sultanpur, Amethi, Prayagraj, and Ayodhya.
The charges reportedly include attempted murder, robbery, dacoity, theft, and offences under the Gangster Act as well as the Arms Act. Police officials also stated that Satyam Lona has several serious criminal cases registered against him, although detailed information about those cases has not yet been made public.
Authorities confirmed that legal action has been initiated against both accused in connection with the latest incident.
Recent Police Action Against Wanted Criminals
The latest encounter comes amid continued action by Uttar Pradesh law enforcement agencies against individuals with serious criminal backgrounds. Earlier, on July 7, the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) carried out an operation in Ambedkar Nagar in which alleged gangster Asif Ali, aged 40, was killed during an encounter.
According to STF officials, Asif Ali allegedly opened fire after security personnel surrounded him near Jagdishpur village, around 25 kilometres from the district headquarters. The STF responded to the attack, and the accused sustained fatal gunshot injuries during the exchange of fire.
