ElectoralRolls – ECI Extends Odisha Roll Revision Deadline, Releases Andhra Draft List
ElectoralRolls – The Election Commission of India has revised the schedule for electoral roll verification in Odisha while also publishing the draft electoral rolls for Andhra Pradesh after completing the latest phase of the Special Intensive Revision.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has extended the last date for submitting claims and objections related to the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Odisha. The earlier deadline of August 4 has now been pushed to August 19 following a request from the state’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO). The revision exercise is being conducted with July 1, 2026, as the qualifying date for voter eligibility.
Odisha Revision Schedule Updated
In an official notification issued on Friday, the Commission confirmed that the extended timeline will allow eligible citizens additional time to seek corrections, additions, or deletions in the electoral rolls. The decision was taken by exercising powers available under the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, after considering the request made by the Odisha CEO.
Notice Period and Final Roll Publication
With the revised schedule in place, the notice period along with the examination and disposal of all claims and objections will continue until September 17, 2026. After the completion of this process, the final electoral rolls for Odisha are scheduled to be published on September 21, 2026. The Commission said the extension is intended to ensure that the revision process is completed in an orderly and transparent manner.
Andhra Pradesh Draft Electoral Rolls Released
On the same day, the Election Commission also announced the publication of the draft electoral rolls for Andhra Pradesh after concluding the enumeration phase of the Special Intensive Revision. According to information shared by the Chief Electoral Officer’s office, more than 3.71 crore voters submitted their Enumeration Forms during the exercise.
The enumeration drive was conducted between June 15 and July 24, covering the state’s total electorate of 4,16,27,694. Official figures show that 3,71,38,182 electors, representing 89.22 percent of the total voter base, completed and submitted their forms during the verification process.
Verification Exercise Identifies Multiple Categories
The revision exercise also identified 15.22 lakh electors, accounting for 3.66 percent of the electorate, as deceased. In addition, around 22.30 lakh names, or 5.35 percent of the total, were classified under categories such as permanently shifted, absent, or other related classifications that require further verification.
The Commission also reported that approximately 7.37 lakh electors, representing 1.77 percent of the electorate, were found to have registrations at more than one location in the electoral rolls.
Duplicate Entries to Be Addressed
According to the Election Commission, duplicate voter registrations will be dealt with in accordance with the prescribed legal procedure. Where a person is enrolled at multiple places, the name will ultimately be retained in only one eligible constituency after the verification process is completed.
The poll authority further explained that some electors could not be located by Booth Level Officers during field verification or did not submit their Enumeration Forms before the July 24 deadline. In several cases, individuals had already registered as voters in other states or Union Territories, while others were either no longer residing at the recorded address, could not be traced, or chose not to continue their voter registration for various reasons. These cases will be processed as part of the ongoing electoral roll revision to maintain accurate and updated voter records.
