Security – Ajit Doval Honoured with Lokmanya Tilak National Award in Pune Ceremony
Security – Union Home Minister Amit Shah presented the Lokmanya Tilak National Award to National Security Advisor Ajit Doval during a ceremony held in Pune on Saturday, recognising his decades of contribution to India’s security framework and strategic policymaking.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah conferred the prestigious Lokmanya Tilak National Award on National Security Advisor Ajit Doval at a function organised in Pune. The honour, announced by the Tilak Smarak Trust, acknowledges Doval’s exceptional contribution to strengthening India’s national security over several decades. The ceremony took place on August 1, observed as the death anniversary of freedom fighter Bal Gangadhar Tilak, when the award is traditionally presented each year.
Recognition for a Distinguished Career
Ajit Doval, who is 81 years old, has built one of the longest and most distinguished careers in India’s security establishment. Throughout his service, he has undertaken several critical assignments in regions that demanded careful handling, including Mizoram, Sikkim, Punjab, and Jammu and Kashmir. His experience also extends beyond domestic responsibilities, having served in diplomatic positions at Indian missions in Islamabad and London.
Doval currently holds the distinction of being the longest-serving National Security Advisor in the country’s history. Over the years, he has played a significant role in shaping India’s strategic and security policies while working closely on matters of national importance.
Role in Strategic and Diplomatic Initiatives
Apart from overseeing national security matters, Doval has represented India in several high-level diplomatic engagements. He served as India’s Special Representative for discussions concerning the India-China boundary issue and is widely recognised for his involvement in diplomatic efforts that contributed to resolving the Doklam standoff. His work has combined intelligence, diplomacy, and strategic planning, making him one of the country’s most experienced security officials.
Legacy of the Lokmanya Tilak National Award
The Lokmanya Tilak National Award was established in 1983 by the Tilak Smarak Trust to honour individuals who have made remarkable contributions to the progress and development of the nation. The first recipient of the award was noted socialist leader S. M. Joshi.
Presented annually on August 1, the award commemorates the legacy of Bal Gangadhar Tilak, one of India’s leading freedom fighters and social reformers. Over the years, it has been bestowed upon several prominent national figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former Prime Ministers Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Manmohan Singh, and Indira Gandhi, former President Pranab Mukherjee, and veteran political leader Sharad Pawar.
Amit Shah Pays Tribute to Annabhau Sathe
During his Pune visit, Amit Shah also paid floral tributes to celebrated Marathi poet, writer, and social reformer Lokshahir Annabhau Sathe on the occasion of his birth anniversary. The tribute ceremony was held at Sarasbaug, where Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis joined Shah along with Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar. Several public representatives and local dignitaries also participated in the programme by offering flowers at Sathe’s statue.
Remembering a Social Reformer
Born on August 1, 1920, Annabhau Sathe remains an influential figure in Maharashtra’s social and literary history. He is remembered as a pioneering voice in Dalit literature and a renowned folk poet whose writings highlighted social justice, equality, and the struggles of marginalised communities. His contribution continues to inspire generations through literature and public discourse.
