Aviation – Bhogapuram International Airport Expected to Boost Growth Across Andhra Pradesh
Aviation –Ahead of the inauguration of the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, residents across the region have voiced hope that the long-awaited project will become a major driver of economic progress, better transportation links, and new employment opportunities.
The airport, located in Andhra Pradesh’s Vizianagaram district, has been developed as a Greenfield project under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model with an investment exceeding Rs 5,640 crore. Designed to accommodate nearly six million passengers every year, the facility is expected to strengthen domestic and international air connectivity while encouraging tourism, trade, business investment, and regional development across North Andhra.
Residents Expect Strong Economic Benefits
People living in and around Vizianagaram believe the airport will play a significant role in attracting industries and encouraging further infrastructure expansion in nearby districts. Many residents also expressed appreciation to both the Central Government and the Andhra Pradesh Government for completing a project they believe will have long-term benefits for the state’s economy.
Local residents said the improved connectivity is likely to make the region more attractive for businesses while creating fresh opportunities for entrepreneurs, skilled professionals, and young job seekers.
Confidence in Development Agenda
Speaking to IANS, Vizianagaram resident Srinivas shared his optimism about the country’s development under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said sectors such as aviation and electronics have witnessed notable progress and added that the vision of achieving a developed India by 2047 continues to guide several large infrastructure initiatives.
Srinivas also acknowledged the role of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, along with Nara Lokesh and Pawan Kalyan, stating that the state’s leadership is working with a focused development strategy aimed at accelerating economic growth.
He further said that after a challenging period under the previous administration, Andhra Pradesh is once again moving toward rapid progress. Referring to Chandrababu Naidu’s earlier Vision 2020 initiative, he noted that Hyderabad had emerged as a globally recognized information technology hub and expressed confidence that similar planning could help transform Andhra Pradesh.
Airport Seen as a Catalyst for Regional Expansion
According to Srinivas, the Bhogapuram International Airport has the potential to become a foundation for broader regional development. He believes the project will benefit districts such as Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, and Visakhapatnam by encouraging industrial investment, expanding business activity, and generating large-scale employment over the coming years.
He also said that many people support development initiatives because they expect visible improvements in infrastructure, transparency in governance, and practical implementation of projects that directly benefit citizens.
Local Residents Welcome Joint Efforts
Another Vizianagaram resident, Ramu, also welcomed the airport project while speaking to IANS. He described the airport as the outcome of coordinated efforts between the Central Government and the Andhra Pradesh Government.
Ramu said the improved infrastructure is expected to attract new industries and increase economic activity throughout the surrounding region. In his view, the project will create more employment opportunities for educated youth, helping future generations build stable careers closer to home instead of seeking work elsewhere.
Hope for Greater Opportunities
Resident Vijay Lakshmi also expressed confidence that the state’s future looks promising following the formation of the NDA government in Andhra Pradesh. She said many families have noticed positive developments and believe additional opportunities will emerge as more infrastructure projects are completed.
She added that continued industrial investment should remain a priority, as expanding employment opportunities will help ensure that young people, experienced professionals, and individuals with different skill sets can all find meaningful work within the state.
