Women Welfare Scheme – Punjab Expands Monthly Financial Aid for Eligible Women
Women Welfare Scheme –Punjab is set to expand financial support for women through another major disbursement under its flagship welfare initiative, with Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann scheduled to release the latest instalment during a public event in Pathankot on Saturday.
The latest phase of assistance under the Mukh Mantri Mawan-Dhiyan Satkar Yojana will benefit nearly 35.5 lakh women across Punjab. The amount will be transferred directly into the beneficiaries’ bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, ensuring transparent and timely payments without intermediaries.
More Women Added to the Welfare Programme
With this fresh round of payments, the number of women covered under the scheme will rise significantly. Officials said around 33 lakh women had already received financial assistance in the earlier phase. After the current instalment is credited, the cumulative number of beneficiaries will increase to approximately 68.5 lakh women across the state.
The expansion reflects the Punjab government’s ongoing effort to widen the reach of the programme and include more eligible beneficiaries under its financial support initiative.
Monthly Assistance Based on Eligibility
The welfare scheme provides monthly financial assistance to eligible women based on their category. Women belonging to the general category receive ₹1,000 every month, while eligible women from the Scheduled Caste (SC) category are entitled to ₹1,500 per month.
Authorities have stated that all payments are made directly into registered bank accounts using the DBT mechanism, reducing delays and improving the efficiency of fund distribution.
Scheme Introduced During Budget Announcement
The Mukh Mantri Mawan-Dhiyan Satkar Yojana was announced by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on 8 March 2026, coinciding with International Women’s Day. The programme formed a key part of the Punjab Budget 2026-27 and was presented as a major social welfare initiative aimed at strengthening the financial security of women across the state.
The government has positioned the scheme as an important step toward supporting household income and improving the economic participation of women, particularly those from financially vulnerable backgrounds.
Government Allocated ₹9,300 Crore for the Initiative
To implement the programme on a large scale, the Punjab Government earmarked ₹9,300 crore in the 2026-27 Budget. According to official estimates, the scheme is expected to benefit nearly 90 lakh eligible women once it reaches full implementation.
The government believes that regular monthly assistance will help women meet essential household expenses while providing greater financial stability. Officials have also emphasised that the DBT-based payment process enhances transparency and ensures that assistance reaches beneficiaries without unnecessary administrative hurdles.
Saturday’s event in Pathankot marks another milestone in the rollout of the welfare programme as the state government continues to expand its coverage. With millions of women expected to receive financial support through the latest transfer, the initiative remains one of Punjab’s largest social assistance programmes focused on women’s welfare and financial inclusion.
