Uber Driver – Punjab-Origin Man Faces Sexual Assault Charges in Canada Case
Uber Driver –A 25-year-old man of Punjab origin has been charged in Canada after police alleged that he sexually assaulted a woman on two separate occasions in Burlington, Ontario, last month. The accused, identified as Mandeep Singh of Etobicoke, was arrested by the Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) on July 26. Authorities confirmed that he has been charged with two counts of sexual assault and remains in custody while awaiting a bail hearing in Milton.
Police Outline Sequence of Alleged Incidents
According to investigators, the alleged offences took place on June 16 at around 5:15 p.m. in the south parking lot of the Burlington GO Station on Fairview Street. Police said the woman was approached by the accused, leading to a brief conversation before the first alleged sexual assault occurred.
Officials stated that the woman immediately left the location after the incident. However, investigators allege that the accused followed her to a nearby business, where a second act of sexual assault was reported to have taken place shortly afterward. Despite the reported encounters, police confirmed that the woman did not sustain any physical injuries.
Investigation Led by Specialized Police Unit
Following the complaint, the case was assigned to the Child Abuse and Sexual Assault (CASA) Unit of the Halton Regional Police Service. Detectives carried out the investigation, which resulted in the identification and subsequent arrest of Mandeep Singh.
Police said the accused was employed as an Uber rideshare driver at the time the alleged offences occurred. After being taken into custody, he was formally charged with two counts of sexual assault and was held pending a court appearance for a bail hearing.
Authorities Seek Information From the Public
Investigators have expressed concern that there could be additional individuals who may have had encounters with the accused during his employment as a rideshare driver. To assist with the investigation, police released the accused’s identity and photograph as part of their public appeal.
The Halton Regional Police Service has requested that anyone with information related to the case, or anyone who believes they may have been affected by the accused, contact the Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Unit. Authorities also reminded members of the public that anonymous information can be shared through Crime Stoppers.
Ride-Hailing Role Under Investigation
Police have not indicated whether the alleged incidents were connected to a passenger trip booked through the rideshare platform. However, investigators confirmed that the accused was working as an Uber driver during the period in question, prompting additional efforts to determine whether any similar complaints exist.
At this stage, the allegations remain before the court, and the charges have not been tested in legal proceedings. Canadian authorities continue to investigate the matter and are encouraging anyone with relevant information to come forward to support the ongoing inquiry.
