Fraud Case – Court Orders Police Investigation Into Former India Spinner Rajesh Chauhan
Fraud Case – A court in Chhattisgarh has directed the police to investigate allegations of financial fraud involving former India cricketer Rajesh Chauhan after a complaint claimed that more than ₹15 lakh was collected through an alleged transport business arrangement. The order was issued by a Judicial Magistrate First Class court in Durg district, which asked investigators to examine the claims in accordance with the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and submit a detailed report after completing the inquiry.

Court Orders Investigation Under BNSS
Judicial Magistrate First Class Aishwarya Dewan accepted an application filed under Section 175(3) of the BNSS and instructed the local police to carry out a lawful investigation into the complaint. The court observed that the allegations required a detailed inquiry to determine whether the complainant had been induced into a financial transaction through false representations. After the investigation is completed, the police have been directed to place their final report before the court for further proceedings.
Police Confirm Inquiry Will Be Conducted
Durg Senior Superintendent of Police Vijay Agrawal confirmed that the court has instructed the police to investigate the allegations linked to an alleged transport-related fraud involving the former international cricketer. According to the police official, investigators will examine the complaint, collect relevant evidence, and prepare a report for submission to the court. Any further legal action will depend on the findings presented before the magistrate.
Complaint Details Alleged Business Proposal
According to the complaint filed by Dinkar Vishwamitra, he became acquainted with Rajesh Chauhan through a common associate, Saroj Kumar. The complaint states that Chauhan claimed his firm, Govind Transport Company, had secured a transportation contract involving iron ore and other materials for Jindal Steel Limited at Keonjhar in Odisha.
The complainant alleged that Chauhan invited him to become a business partner by arranging trucks for the transportation work, assuring him that the venture would generate attractive financial returns. To reinforce confidence in the proposal, Chauhan allegedly presented documents and work orders that appeared to support the existence of the contract.
Payments Allegedly Made After Agreement
Advocate Saurabh Chaubey, representing the complainant, stated that a formal agreement between Dinkar Vishwamitra and Rajesh Chauhan was executed on July 30, 2021. Following the agreement, the complainant allegedly transferred an initial payment of ₹2.51 lakh.
The lawyer further claimed that additional payments were made in two separate transactions, taking the total amount transferred to the account of Govind Transport Company to ₹15.01 lakh. The complaint alleges that despite receiving the funds, the promised business arrangement did not materialize as represented.
Court Seeks Detailed Findings
While directing the investigation, the magistrate noted that the complaint presented sufficient grounds to examine whether unlawful financial gain had been obtained under the appearance of a legitimate commercial transaction. The court has instructed the investigating agency to scrutinize the available evidence, verify the claims, and submit a comprehensive report before any further judicial decision is taken.
At this stage, the court has ordered only an investigation, and the allegations remain subject to verification during the legal process.
