Cinema – Global recognition for Indian cinema excellence and cultural contribution – Bollywood actor Rani Mukerji is set to receive another significant international honour as La Trobe University will confer upon her an Honorary Doctor of Letters during the 2026 Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. The honorary degree will be awarded at a special ceremony scheduled for 14 August 2026 at Federation Square in Melbourne. The event will take place as part of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM), which is set to run from 13 to 23 August. The award acknowledges Rani Mukerji’s lasting influence on Indian cinema as well as her commitment to initiatives supporting women, children and underrepresented communities.
