Qatar Explosion- The process of bringing back the mortal remains of Indian workers killed in the Qatar industrial explosion has begun, while officials continue to assist affected families and injured survivors.
The Indian government has started the repatriation of citizens who lost their lives in the devastating industrial explosion at Ras Laffan Industrial City in Qatar. On Thursday, the mortal remains of four Indian nationals were flown back to India, marking the first phase of the return process after the tragic accident claimed multiple lives earlier this week.
Embassy Continues Support for Families
The Indian Embassy in Doha confirmed that arrangements had been completed for the return of four victims and stated that efforts are underway to send back the remaining bodies as soon as the required formalities are completed. Embassy officials said they have maintained regular communication with the families of the deceased and have kept the relevant authorities informed throughout the process.
The mission also acknowledged the assistance provided by the Qatari government and members of the Indian community, whose cooperation has helped coordinate relief measures and documentation following the incident.
Explosion Claimed Lives of 13 Workers
The explosion occurred on Sunday at the Barzan local gas supply facility located within Ras Laffan Industrial City. The site is operated by QatarEnergy LNG. According to officials, the blast resulted in the deaths of 13 people, including 12 Indian nationals and one Pakistani citizen, making it one of the deadliest industrial accidents involving Indian workers in the Gulf region in recent times.
Authorities have not yet released detailed findings on the exact cause of the explosion, and investigations into the incident are continuing.
Dozens Injured in the Industrial Accident
Apart from the fatalities, the explosion left 66 people injured. Officials confirmed that the injured workers belong to several countries, reflecting the multinational workforce employed at the industrial facility.
Among those receiving medical treatment are citizens of India, Qatar, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Kenya, Ghana, Tanzania, Nigeria and Nepal. Medical teams have continued to provide treatment while authorities monitor the condition of those admitted to hospitals.
Indian Mission Monitoring the Situation
The Indian Embassy stated that it remains in close contact with injured Indian nationals and is extending all possible assistance to them. Officials are also coordinating with local authorities to ensure that necessary support reaches affected workers and their families during this difficult period.
The embassy reiterated its commitment to completing the repatriation process for the remaining deceased citizens at the earliest opportunity. It added that every effort is being made to facilitate documentation, transportation and other formal procedures in coordination with Qatari authorities.
The tragic incident has once again highlighted the risks associated with large-scale industrial operations and the importance of workplace safety in high-risk sectors. As investigations continue, the focus remains on supporting the victims’ families, caring for the injured and ensuring the smooth return of the deceased to their homes in India.
