Terrorism – NIA Probe Reveals Ambitious Network Behind Red Fort Blast Case

Terrorism – Investigators examining the November 10, 2025 Red Fort blast case have uncovered evidence suggesting that the accused were working toward building a large-scale militant network with ambitions extending far beyond a single attack. According to sources familiar with the investigation, the group allegedly sought to create an organization capable of operating across multiple regions of the country and intended to develop capabilities exceeding those of previously known domestic terror networks.

Findings Emerge After Months of Investigation

The revelations have surfaced following nearly six months of detailed investigations that included interrogations, forensic assessments, technical data examination, and intelligence gathering. Officials involved in the case said the findings point to a structured and long-term plan rather than an isolated act of violence.

Umar Un Nabi, identified as the principal accused in the Delhi blast case, died during the explosion. Investigators have since continued their inquiry by analyzing digital evidence, communication records, and materials recovered during the probe.

Links to International Terror Network Alleged

The National Investigation Agency (NIA), which is leading the case, has stated in its chargesheet that several accused individuals were allegedly connected to a faction linked to the international terrorist organization al-Qaida. According to investigators, the group was engaged in activities aimed at enhancing its operational capabilities and expanding its reach.

The agency has also alleged that members of the network developed rocket-based improvised explosive devices and conducted trial runs in forested areas near Qazigund in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district. These findings form part of the evidence submitted before the court.

Extensive Chargesheet Details Operational Planning

On May 14, the NIA filed a chargesheet spanning approximately 7,500 pages in connection with the high-intensity vehicle-borne IED explosion that struck the national capital in November last year. The document reportedly outlines the alleged roles of various individuals, technical findings, and evidence collected during the investigation.

Authorities believe the accused were involved in a broader strategy that extended beyond conventional attack methods. Follow-up inquiries reportedly uncovered plans related to the development of armed drones and discussions concerning potential attacks in different parts of the country.

Educated Professionals Among Those Under Scrutiny

Investigators described the accused as highly educated individuals drawn from a range of professional backgrounds. Intelligence officials said the network allegedly included people with expertise in fields such as engineering and medicine.

According to officials, the group appeared focused on establishing a long-term operational framework. Investigators reportedly found references to recruitment efforts, ideological training, fundraising channels, and technological development. Authorities believe these elements were intended to support sustained activities over an extended period.

Historical Context of Indian Mujahideen

Officials involved in the investigation noted that the Indian Mujahideen emerged in the early 2000s as one of India’s most prominent homegrown terror organizations. Security agencies have previously stated that the group evolved from radical factions associated with the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI).

Over the years, the organization became known for its involvement in a series of bomb attacks across several Indian cities between 2005 and 2013. Many of its key members were reportedly linked to the coastal Karnataka town of Bhatkal.

The Significance of the Bhatkal Module

The concentration of several founding members from Bhatkal led security agencies and investigators to commonly refer to the network as the “Bhatkal module.” The term later became widely associated with the group’s activities and organizational structure.

The latest findings in the Red Fort blast investigation are expected to play an important role in ongoing court proceedings, while agencies continue examining the broader scope of the alleged network and its operational plans.
