Crime News – Ghaziabad Police Arrest Wanted Suspect After Encounter
Crime News – A man wanted in multiple criminal cases across the Delhi-NCR region was arrested by police after an encounter in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad district. The accused, who carried a reward of Rs 50,000 on his arrest, suffered bullet injuries to both legs during the operation and was later admitted to a hospital for medical treatment.

Investigation Linked to Abduction Case
According to police officials, the arrest is connected to the kidnapping of Omkar Singh, a resident of Ganauli village in the Loni area of Ghaziabad. The incident was reported on May 30, prompting authorities to launch an intensive search operation to identify and apprehend those responsible.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Siddharth Gautam stated that investigators had been actively pursuing leads in the case for several days. The police received fresh information regarding the suspect’s whereabouts in the early hours of Saturday, leading to a targeted operation.
Police Intercept Vehicle During Search Operation
Acting on the intelligence input, a police team set up a checking point near the canal along the Banthla-Chirodi Road. During the surveillance operation, officers noticed a white car moving from Banthla toward Chirodi.
When police personnel signalled the vehicle to stop for inspection, the driver allegedly ignored the instructions and attempted to escape. This prompted officers to initiate a pursuit in an effort to intercept the suspect.
Chase Ends After Vehicle Crash
During the chase, the speeding vehicle reportedly lost control and collided with a roadside tree. Police said the accused then exited the damaged car and tried to flee from the scene.
Authorities alleged that the suspect opened fire on the pursuing officers while attempting to escape. In response, police returned fire, resulting in gunshot wounds to both of the accused’s legs. He was immediately overpowered and taken into custody.
Accused Allegedly Confesses During Questioning
Following the arrest, the injured suspect was shifted to a hospital under police supervision. During preliminary questioning, investigators identified him as Gaurav Nagar, a man already facing several criminal cases in the Delhi-NCR region.
Police officials stated that Nagar allegedly admitted his involvement in the abduction of Omkar Singh. According to investigators, the suspect claimed that he and his associates kidnapped Singh before later killing him. The body was allegedly disposed of in the Ganganagar area along the Rohta-Meerut Road.
Weapon Recovered During Arrest
Officials confirmed that a pistol and four live cartridges were recovered from the accused at the time of his arrest. Police records indicate that Nagar had been declared a wanted criminal and carried a cash reward of Rs 50,000 for information leading to his capture.
Authorities said further legal proceedings are underway, while efforts continue to identify and apprehend any remaining individuals connected to the case. Investigators are also examining additional evidence as part of the ongoing inquiry.
