BiharPolitics – RJD Faces Internal Debate Over Council Poll Nomination
BiharPolitics –Political developments surrounding the upcoming Bihar Legislative Council election gathered momentum on Monday after the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) officially nominated former Member of the Legislative Council Sunil Kumar Singh for the contest. The decision has sparked discussion within the party, with some leaders expressing differing views on the choice of candidate.

Sunil Kumar Singh Submits Nomination Papers
On the last day allotted for filing nominations, Sunil Kumar Singh completed the nomination process at the Bihar Legislative Assembly complex. Several senior RJD leaders accompanied him during the filing, signaling the party leadership’s support for his candidature in the Legislative Council election.
The announcement quickly became a subject of political discussion, particularly after reactions emerged from within the party ranks. While the RJD leadership appeared united behind its candidate, criticism from certain quarters highlighted ongoing differences over the selection.
Rohini Acharya Voices Concerns
Among those who openly questioned the decision was Rohini Acharya, daughter of veteran RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav. Through a message posted on social media platform X, she raised objections to the party’s decision to nominate Sunil Kumar Singh once again.
Rohini alleged that Singh’s political approach had often contributed to divisions within the organization. She claimed that his style of functioning reflected tendencies that weakened unity and trust among party workers.
Questions Raised Over Party Priorities
In her remarks, Rohini also suggested that individuals who have remained consistently committed to the party’s ideological goals should have been considered for greater responsibility. According to her, the task of strengthening the social justice movement and expanding the party structure should be entrusted to dedicated grassroots workers.
She further argued that neglecting long-serving party members could create disappointment among supporters and local-level leaders who have worked for the organization over many years.
Focus on Loyal Cadres and Social Justice Agenda
Highlighting the party’s history, Rohini stated that numerous leaders and workers from minority communities, Yadavs, Dalits, backward classes, and other socially marginalized groups have remained loyal to the vision established by Lalu Prasad Yadav since the formation of the RJD.
She expressed concern that overlooking such experienced and committed workers could have negative implications for organizational morale. According to her, recognizing the contribution of these leaders is important for maintaining the party’s long-term strength and unity.
RJD Leadership Continues to Back Candidate
Despite the criticism, the RJD leadership has maintained its confidence in Sunil Kumar Singh. He is widely regarded as being closely associated with former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi and has remained an influential figure within the party’s political framework.
The decision to field him again indicates that the party leadership believes he remains a strong choice for the Legislative Council seat. Party leaders have so far shown no indication of reconsidering the nomination despite the internal debate.
Election Mathematics Favors RJD
Current political calculations suggest that the RJD is in a favorable position in the Bihar Legislative Council election. Under the existing voting structure, a candidate generally requires the backing of around 25 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) to secure victory.
Based on the numerical strength of the Mahagathbandhan, or Grand Alliance, in the Bihar Assembly, political observers believe Sunil Kumar Singh has a strong chance of being elected to the Legislative Council. Unless there are unexpected developments during voting, the alliance’s numbers are considered sufficient to support his candidature successfully
