TMC Crisis – Internal Rift Deepens as BJP Predicts Party’s Decline
TMC Crisis – The political atmosphere in West Bengal has intensified amid growing divisions within the Trinamool Congress (TMC), with senior BJP leader Prakash Reddy claiming that the party has entered a period of decline following its recent electoral setback. His comments come at a time when internal disagreements and leadership challenges have become increasingly visible within the ruling party.

BJP Leader Links Party Troubles to Election Performance
Speaking on Monday, Prakash Reddy said the roots of the current unrest can be traced back to the party’s disappointing performance in the West Bengal elections. According to him, the situation exposed deeper issues within the organization and accelerated internal fragmentation.
Reddy argued that leadership-related factors have played a major role in the ongoing tensions. He pointed to the political approach of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the decisions taken by senior party figure Abhishek Banerjee as contributing elements behind the growing divide. He also dismissed suggestions that age or generational change was responsible for the present situation.
Prediction of a Challenging Future for TMC
The BJP leader went further by predicting a difficult future for the Trinamool Congress in the state. He claimed that the party could gradually lose its political relevance if the present internal conflicts continue unchecked.
Drawing comparisons with other regional political organizations that witnessed a decline after years of dominance, Reddy said TMC may face a similar trajectory. In his view, the party’s ability to remain united and competitive in future elections could be seriously affected by the ongoing power struggle.
Rebellion Within the Party Gains Momentum
Reddy’s remarks come against the backdrop of a major rebellion within the Trinamool Congress. Recently, expelled MLA Ritabrata Banerjee emerged at the center of a political challenge to the party leadership after forming a separate faction inside the West Bengal Assembly.
The new group reportedly secured the backing of 58 legislators, giving it significant strength within the legislature. The development led to a major change in the opposition leadership structure, with Ritabrata Banerjee assuming the position of Leader of the Opposition, replacing Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay, who had earlier held the post.
Rebel Group Claims Majority Support
Addressing the media during a recent press conference, Ritabrata Banerjee stated that the faction was moving forward in a gradual and structured manner. He maintained that the legislative wing represented by the rebel group had the support of more than two-thirds of the lawmakers who were originally elected on the Trinamool Congress symbol.
He further said that their claim had received recognition from the Speaker of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, strengthening their position in the ongoing political dispute. According to Banerjee, the group intends to continue advancing its objectives step by step while focusing on legislative matters.
Mamata Banerjee Invited for Advisory Role
Despite the growing political differences, Ritabrata Banerjee indicated that he still wishes to see former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee associated with the group in an advisory capacity. He suggested that she could serve as the chief advisor to the rebel legislators, signaling that channels of communication may remain open despite the ongoing split.
The developments have added a new layer of uncertainty to West Bengal politics, with observers closely watching how the Trinamool Congress responds to the internal challenge and whether the party can maintain unity ahead of future electoral contests.
