Arrests Made in Connection With the Case

Police officials said they have arrested a married couple from Bardhaman district in West Bengal in connection with the case. The accused have been identified as 42-year-old Ramprashad Das and 36-year-old Banashree Das. Authorities also confirmed that the couple’s minor son has been taken into custody under legal procedures applicable to juveniles.

The arrests came after investigators examined evidence collected during the inquiry into the professor’s death at her residence in Vasundhara Enclave, Delhi.

Property at Center of Alleged Dispute

According to the police, the victim owned an ancestral property in West Bengal valued at several crores of rupees. Officials stated that the property had been transferred to her through a family settlement arrangement.

Investigators claim the accused family had been residing at the property since 2023. Over time, disagreements reportedly emerged as the professor repeatedly requested that the occupants vacate the premises. Police allege that tensions increased after she issued a final notice asking them to leave, leading to an escalating dispute over the ownership and possession of the property.

CCTV Footage Provided Key Leads

During the investigation, officers reviewed surveillance footage from the residential complex where the professor lived. Police said the footage allegedly showed the accused arriving at the apartment building on Wednesday while wearing masks.

Authorities claim the couple travelled to the location in a private cab carrying bags and entered the building through the staircase rather than using more visible access points. Investigators further alleged that the pair brought their minor son along in an attempt to avoid attracting suspicion.

Alleged Sequence of Events

Police said the accused were familiar to the victim, allowing them to enter the apartment without resistance. Investigators allege that once inside, they carried out the attack using a weapon they had brought with them.

Officials maintain that the murder was pre-planned and motivated by the ongoing dispute related to the West Bengal property. The investigation team is continuing to examine forensic evidence, digital records, and witness statements to strengthen the case.

The case has drawn attention due to the victim’s academic background and the alleged motive behind the crime. Delhi Police said further inquiries are underway, and additional evidence is being analyzed as part of the ongoing investigation.
