Heroin Seizure – CISF Detects Hidden Narcotics in Imphal Airport Luggage
Heroin Seizure – A major narcotics haul was uncovered at Imphal International Airport on Friday after security personnel intercepted two passengers scheduled to travel to Kolkata. The operation led to the recovery of more than four kilograms of suspected heroin concealed inside specially modified luggage, officials said.

Suspicious Conduct Triggers Security Inspection
According to sources, the incident occurred around 11 a.m. when personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) observed unusual behaviour from a passenger carrying two duffle bags. The individual reportedly attempted several times to bypass the mandatory baggage screening process, claiming he was in a hurry to board his flight.
His repeated efforts to avoid inspection raised concerns among security staff, who directed the luggage through the Random X-BIS screening system installed at the departure entry gate. The scan reportedly revealed irregularities that prompted a more detailed examination.
Hidden Compartments Found Inside Bags
During the physical inspection of the baggage, CISF personnel discovered concealed packets hidden within specially designed false bottoms inside both duffle bags. Officials suspect the recovered substance to be heroin, although laboratory confirmation is awaited.
Sources stated that approximately 2.05 kilograms of the suspected narcotic was recovered from one bag, while another 2.04 kilograms was found concealed in the second bag. The total quantity seized was about 4.09 kilograms.
Estimated Value Near Rs 5 Crore
Preliminary estimates suggest that the seized contraband could have a market value of nearly Rs 5 crore. The recovery is being viewed as a significant success for airport security agencies working to prevent the movement of illegal drugs through air routes.
Officials noted that the concealment method appeared carefully planned, with the hidden compartments designed to avoid detection during routine handling. However, the suspicious behaviour of the passenger prompted security personnel to carry out a more comprehensive inspection.
Second Passenger Identified During Inquiry
During initial questioning, the detained passenger reportedly informed investigators that one of the bags belonged to another traveler booked on the same Imphal-to-Kolkata flight.
Following this disclosure, the CISF Crime Intelligence Wing initiated a search for the second individual within the airport’s Security Hold Area. The passenger was subsequently located and questioned. Sources said he acknowledged ownership of the bag linked to him.
Police Take Over Further Investigation
Both passengers were later handed over to the Singjamei Police Station in Imphal West district along with the recovered suspected narcotics and relevant documentation.
Authorities have launched a detailed investigation to determine the origin, intended destination, and possible network behind the seized substance. Legal proceedings under the applicable provisions of narcotics laws are expected to follow as investigators continue their inquiry.
The case highlights the importance of strict airport screening measures and the role of security personnel in identifying suspicious activity that may otherwise go unnoticed.
