Safety – Delhi Fire Incidents Raise Concerns Over Residential Electrical Hazards
Safety – A tragic fire accident in west Delhi claimed the life of a 13-year-old boy and left an elderly woman seriously injured after flames swept through a residential building in the Vishnu Garden area during the early hours of Wednesday.

According to officials from the Delhi Fire Services, the fire is believed to have started from an electric scooter parked on the ground floor of the house. The flames quickly spread to household items stored nearby, creating dense smoke and panic inside the building while several family members were asleep.
Boy Succumbs to Injuries, Elderly Woman Undergoing Treatment
Emergency teams said two people suffered severe burn injuries in the incident. Before fire engines reached the location, nearby residents along with Police Control Room personnel shifted the victims to Guru Gobind Hospital in Raghubir Nagar.
Authorities identified the deceased as a 13-year-old boy who was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital. A 65-year-old woman, Swamjeet Kaur, sustained nearly 35 percent burn injuries and remains under medical care.
Police officials stated that a PCR call regarding the fire was received at Khyala police station around 2.43 am. Initial findings revealed that the minor boy and his uncle had been sleeping on the ground floor when the blaze erupted. Other members of the family were resting on the upper floors of the house at the time.
Firefighters Managed To Contain The Blaze
Multiple fire tenders and water bouncers were rushed to the area after the emergency call. Firefighters managed to prevent the flames from spreading further and brought the situation under control after a rescue operation lasting several minutes.
Investigators suspect that a short circuit may have triggered the fire, although officials said a detailed inquiry is underway to determine the exact cause. Authorities are also examining the condition of the electric scooter and electrical wiring inside the building.
The incident has once again highlighted growing concerns surrounding fire safety measures in densely populated residential localities across the national capital, especially where electric vehicles and charging equipment are used inside homes.
Another Fire Incident Reported In Burari
In a separate fire-related emergency, Delhi Police successfully rescued 13 people, including 11 visually impaired students, after flames engulfed a building in the Burari area of north Delhi.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Raja Banthia said the incident took place around 2.30 am on May 17 at Daroga Market. A local resident informed Head Constable Amar Singh about the fire, following which he immediately rushed to the location.
Police said eight shops located on the ground floor had caught fire, and the flames rapidly spread upward, blocking the staircase and trapping several people inside the building.
Police Officer Rescued Victims Using Passing Truck
During the rescue operation, Head Constable Amar Singh noticed a man and a woman stranded on the second floor amid thick smoke and intense heat. Since the staircase had become inaccessible, he stopped a truck passing through the area and climbed onto its roof to reach the trapped occupants.
Officials said the officer safely rescued both individuals one after another before additional emergency teams arrived. The remaining people, including visually impaired students staying inside the building, were also evacuated safely during the operation.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the Burari fire incident as well. No fatalities were reported in the second case.
