MedicalMisconduct – Uttar Pradesh Government Orders Hospital Sealed After Assault Allegation
MedicalMisconduct – Authorities in Uttar Pradesh have launched strict legal and administrative action after allegations surfaced against a doctor accused of sexually assaulting a Class 12 student inside an operation theatre at a private hospital in Lucknow’s Bakshi Ka Talab area.

State Government Announces Immediate Crackdown
The Uttar Pradesh government moved swiftly after the complaint came to light, ordering the closure of the private medical facility where the alleged incident took place. Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, who also manages the state’s health department, directed officials to seal Tejas Hospital with immediate effect.
Addressing journalists on Friday, Pathak described the allegations as deeply disturbing and said such incidents damage public trust in the medical profession. He stated that strict legal and departmental action had already begun against the accused doctor, identified as Dr. Vijay Kumar Giri.
According to the Deputy Chief Minister, the accused doctor’s medical license has been suspended, while the process to cancel his Ayurvedic medical qualification has also been initiated.
Survivor’s Complaint Leads to Police Action
Police officials confirmed that action was taken soon after the student approached authorities with her statement regarding the alleged assault. Based on the complaint, Bakshi Ka Talab police registered a criminal case under relevant sections of the law and detained the accused doctor for questioning.
Investigators are now examining evidence connected to the incident, while officials said further legal proceedings will continue according to the findings of the investigation.
The case has triggered widespread concern in the region, particularly because the allegations involve a minor student and a healthcare institution where patients are expected to feel safe and protected.
Hospital Found Operating Without Valid Renewal
During the parallel administrative inquiry conducted by the state health department, officials reportedly discovered irregularities related to the hospital’s operational permissions. Preliminary findings indicated that the hospital had allegedly been functioning without a renewed license.
Authorities said this violation has added another serious dimension to the case, prompting health officials to initiate separate legal proceedings against the hospital management.
Officials from the department stated that action would not be limited to the accused individual alone and that the institution’s administrative accountability would also be examined thoroughly.
Government Reaffirms Stand on Women’s Safety
Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak said the state government stands firmly with the survivor and her family during the ongoing investigation. He added that the administration remains committed to ensuring justice and maintaining strict measures against crimes involving women and minors.
“The family is going through severe emotional distress, and the government will provide every possible support,” Pathak said while stressing that anyone found guilty of compromising the dignity and safety of women would face strict punishment under the law.
The statement comes amid increasing focus by the state administration on monitoring private healthcare institutions and enforcing compliance with medical regulations.
Legal Proceedings to Continue
Authorities confirmed that the case will proceed under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita along with applicable medical regulatory laws. Officials said both criminal and administrative investigations are underway, and additional action may follow based on the outcome of the inquiry.
Senior health department officials have also been asked to review the functioning of similar private medical establishments in the region to ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards.
The incident has drawn strong reactions from various sections of society, with demands for transparent investigation and strict punishment if the allegations are proven in court.
