SolarEnergy – Andhra Pradesh Expands Rural Infrastructure and Household Solar Access
SolarEnergy – The Andhra Pradesh government has intensified efforts to strengthen village infrastructure and improve public services while expanding access to solar energy across the state. Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar said the coalition government is working toward providing 20 lakh PM Surya Ghar connections as part of its broader development agenda.

The minister visited Kotikalapudi village in the Addanki constituency on Sunday, where he inaugurated multiple development works aimed at improving transport and civic facilities in rural areas. Among the projects launched was a blacktop road constructed at a cost of Rs 3 crore, connecting Parvathipuram and Timmareddy Palem to Kotikalapudi. The project is expected to improve daily travel for villagers and help farmers transport agricultural produce more efficiently.
Village Infrastructure Projects Inaugurated
Apart from the road project, Ravi Kumar also inaugurated cement concrete roads and side drainage works developed with an investment of Rs 30 lakh. Local residents said the new infrastructure is expected to address long-standing issues related to waterlogging and internal village connectivity.
The minister additionally opened a newly built compound wall for a local temple, funded through Rs 15 lakh allocated under the AP Transco Corporate Social Responsibility programme. Officials accompanying the minister stated that similar community-focused projects are being considered in other rural regions as part of ongoing welfare and infrastructure expansion plans.
During his interaction with residents, Ravi Kumar stressed that the government remains focused on balanced growth by improving both public utilities and essential services. He said rural development and energy accessibility continue to be among the administration’s top priorities.
Push for PM Surya Ghar Scheme
Later in the day, the minister launched PM Surya Ghar initiatives in Sri Ram Nagar Colony. He stated that nearly 6 lakh households have already benefited from free solar power connections under the programme. According to officials, the scheme is designed to reduce electricity expenses for families while encouraging the use of renewable energy sources.
Ravi Kumar noted that the electricity department is accelerating implementation of several major schemes, including RDSS works along with PM Surya Ghar and PM Kusum projects. These programmes aim to modernise power infrastructure, improve distribution systems, and support solar energy adoption in both urban and rural areas.
Officials said the government is also focusing on strengthening electricity supply networks to meet growing demand while ensuring reliable service delivery. Solar initiatives are being promoted as part of the state’s long-term clean energy strategy.
Preparations Underway for Mahanadu Event
Following the development review, the minister attended a meeting in Addanki to discuss arrangements for the upcoming Mahanadu event with party leaders and constituency representatives. During the meeting, he explained that this year’s programme would be organised in a hybrid format.
According to Ravi Kumar, speeches delivered by senior party leaders from the central office will be streamed live to different constituencies. LED screens are expected to be installed in local centres so that party workers and supporters can participate virtually from their respective regions.
He urged party members to coordinate effectively and ensure smooth arrangements for the event. The minister added that the gathering would provide an opportunity to present the party’s work and development activities before supporters across the state.
Political observers believe the hybrid model could help increase participation while allowing leaders to connect with workers in multiple districts simultaneously.
