Delhi house fire elderly man dies

Fire breaks out in Chuna Mandi residence

The incident occurred on Monday afternoon in a residential building located in the Chuna Mandi locality. According to officials from the Delhi Fire Services, an emergency call reporting the blaze was received at approximately 2:20 pm. In response, two fire engines were immediately dispatched to the scene to control the situation.

The fire was reported to have originated on the third floor of the house, where various household items caught fire. Firefighters managed to bring the situation under control within about 40 minutes, preventing the flames from spreading further in the building.

Victim found trapped inside locked room

Authorities confirmed that the deceased, identified as Ramesh, was a specially abled individual. He was found trapped inside a room that was locked from the inside. By the time rescue teams reached him, he had already sustained severe burn injuries.

He was quickly transported to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital for medical treatment. However, doctors declared him dead upon arrival due to the extent of his injuries.

His younger brother, Naresh, aged 58, was also present at the time of the incident. He suffered minor burns on his hands while attempting to deal with the situation and was treated for his injuries.

Rescue efforts saved other occupants

Police officials stated that they were alerted to the incident shortly after the fire department received the call and reached the location around 2:45 pm. Upon arrival, they coordinated with fire personnel to ensure the safe evacuation of individuals inside the building.

At least three people were successfully rescued from the premises without major injuries. However, Ramesh remained trapped in the locked room, making rescue efforts more difficult and time-sensitive.

Investigation underway into cause of blaze

After extinguishing the fire, a forensic team was called in to examine the site. Officials have stated that the exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined and will be established following a detailed investigation.

Legal procedures related to the incident have been initiated, and authorities are working to gather evidence that may explain how the fire started. Preliminary observations suggest that common household materials fueled the blaze, but no definitive conclusion has been reached.

Series of recent fire incidents in Delhi

This incident adds to a growing list of fire-related emergencies reported in the capital in recent days. Earlier, a fire at an electric transformer in the Laxmi Nagar area led to the rescue of 14 individuals. In another case, nearly 100 makeshift dwellings were destroyed in a blaze near a shelter facility in northwest Delhi’s Shakur Basti.

Officials have not yet confirmed the causes behind these incidents either, highlighting the need for stricter safety measures and awareness in both residential and informal housing areas.

Rising need for fire safety awareness

The latest tragedy underscores the importance of fire preparedness, particularly in older buildings and congested urban zones. Experts often stress the need for functional fire alarms, accessible exits, and regular electrical maintenance to reduce such risks.

Authorities continue to urge residents to remain vigilant and report any potential hazards promptly. Meanwhile, the investigation into the Paharganj fire remains ongoing as officials seek answers to prevent similar incidents in the future.
