Technology – Andhra Pradesh took a significant step toward strengthening its digital future on Tuesday as Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated the foundation of a major artificial intelligence hub in Visakhapatnam. The project, led by Google Cloud in collaboration with AdaniConneX and Nxtra by Airtel, is part of a broader investment plan aimed at accelerating India’s technology capabilities over the coming years.
Large-Scale Investment and Strategic Locations
The proposed AI hub is being developed across three key sites in Visakhapatnam and Anakapalli districts, covering more than 600 acres in total. Tarluvada, Rambilli, and Adavivaram have been identified as the primary locations for the project. Officials confirmed that the facility is expected to generate around 3,000 direct technical jobs once operational, contributing to local employment and skill development.
The initiative is part of a larger investment roadmap estimated at $15 billion between 2026 and 2030. This funding is expected to support not only infrastructure but also digital services and advanced computing systems across the country.
Advanced Data Centre Ecosystem
The AI hub will function as a high-capacity data centre ecosystem, designed to handle complex computing tasks, artificial intelligence operations, and large-scale digital workloads. Spread across three campuses, the facility is expected to operate at a one-gigawatt scale, making it one of the largest of its kind in the region.
AdaniConneX and Nxtra by Airtel will play a key role in building the core infrastructure, including data centres, connectivity systems, and energy integration. The project also includes plans for extensive fibre-optic networks to enhance data transmission capabilities.
Government Vision and Economic Impact
Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister described the development as a turning point for Andhra Pradesh’s technological landscape. He emphasized that the project would strengthen the state’s global standing in digital innovation and contribute to India’s position in the AI sector.
He compared the initiative to earlier technology-driven growth seen in Hyderabad, suggesting that Visakhapatnam could follow a similar trajectory. The government has set a target to complete the project by September 2028 and has assured full support to all stakeholders involved.

Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted the broader implications of the project, noting that India continues to expand its presence in IT services and electronics manufacturing. He pointed out that the country is increasingly becoming a key player in global supply chains, particularly in areas such as semiconductor development and digital infrastructure.
The Minister also encouraged further domestic production of critical hardware components, including servers and chips, to strengthen India’s technology ecosystem.

Industry leaders associated with the project stressed the importance of collaboration in building large-scale digital infrastructure. Representatives from Google Cloud, Adani Group, and Bharti Enterprises noted that Visakhapatnam is emerging as an important connectivity hub alongside established cities like Mumbai and Chennai.
New undersea cable systems and fibre networks are expected to improve international connectivity, linking India with regions such as Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Australia. This expansion is likely to support global data exchange and digital trade.
Focus on Skills and Community Development
Alongside infrastructure, the project includes several community-focused initiatives. Training programmes in cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and technical operations will be introduced to prepare local youth for future job opportunities. Efforts will also support women-led enterprises and promote digital literacy across communities.
Additional initiatives include water conservation projects, safe drinking water systems, and support for coastal communities through improved navigation and weather tools. These measures aim to balance technological growth with social development.
