Crime – Woman Behind Targeted Fraud Network Arrested After Long Search

Crime – A 38-year-old woman accused of leading a sophisticated fraud network that preyed on women at hospitals and temples has been taken into custody, according to police officials. The suspect, identified as Paro from Bawana, had been evading arrest for nearly two years and was wanted in multiple criminal cases. Authorities confirmed that she had been declared a proclaimed offender in two of those cases.

Investigation Reveals Pattern of Targeted Crimes

Police investigations uncovered a consistent pattern in several reported incidents across Delhi. Women visiting hospitals or religious places were approached by members of an organised group that used deception and psychological tactics to gain their trust. Once engaged in conversation, victims were manipulated into parting with gold jewellery and other valuables.

Officials stated that the group carefully selected individuals who appeared to be alone or emotionally vulnerable. By exploiting such situations, the accused and her associates were able to carry out the fraud without raising immediate suspicion.

Key Accused Evaded Arrest for Nearly Two Years

While one member of the group had been arrested earlier during the course of the investigation, Paro remained on the run since 2023. Police described her as a central figure in the operation, responsible for planning and coordinating the activities of the network. Her continued absence had posed a significant challenge for law enforcement agencies working to dismantle the group.

Due to her involvement in multiple cases and failure to appear before authorities, she was formally declared a proclaimed offender. This designation intensified efforts to track her movements and bring her into custody.

CCTV Analysis Played Crucial Role

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav said that a detailed analysis of surveillance footage was key to locating the accused. Over the past month, investigators examined CCTV recordings from nearly 50 locations, including areas surrounding hospitals and temples where the incidents were reported.

Through this process, police were able to identify movement patterns and possible hideouts linked to the suspect. Acting on this information, a team conducted a targeted operation and successfully apprehended her on Thursday.

Focus on Preventing Similar Incidents

Authorities have reiterated the importance of public awareness in preventing such crimes. They advised citizens, especially women visiting crowded or sensitive locations, to remain cautious when approached by strangers offering unsolicited help or engaging in unusual conversations.

Police also highlighted the need for improved vigilance at public places, including better monitoring systems and increased patrolling in high-risk areas. Efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the network who may still be active.

Ongoing Investigation

Following the arrest, investigators are continuing to gather information about the full extent of the network’s operations. Officials believe that more cases linked to the group may come to light as the investigation progresses.

The accused is currently in custody, and further legal proceedings are expected in the coming days. Law enforcement agencies have assured that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure justice for the victims and to prevent similar incidents in the future.
