Elections – BJP Unveils West Bengal Poll Manifesto With Key Promises

Criticism of the Current Government

Addressing party workers and the media, Shah launched a sharp attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), holding it responsible for what he described as years of decline in governance. He claimed that the party’s long tenure had adversely affected development and public administration in the state.

According to Shah, the TMC secured its second term in 2016 by making promises that were not fulfilled. He further alleged that the party managed to remain in power in 2021 due to corruption and what he described as a network involving illegal infiltration. These claims formed a central part of his criticism while positioning the BJP as an alternative.

Uniform Civil Code Proposal

A major highlight of the manifesto is the commitment to introduce the Uniform Civil Code in West Bengal. Shah stated that if the BJP forms the government, the policy would be implemented within six months.

He explained that the move is intended to establish a uniform legal framework for all citizens, regardless of religion. At the same time, he stressed that individuals would retain the freedom to practise their faith, underlining the party’s position that equality before the law and religious freedom can coexist.

Welfare Measures for Women

The manifesto places significant emphasis on women’s welfare. Shah announced that under a BJP government, women across the state would receive direct financial assistance of Rs 3,000 transferred to their bank accounts.

In addition, the party has proposed 33 percent reservation for women in all government jobs. This includes positions in the police force, a move that the BJP says will improve both employment opportunities and gender representation in public services.

Focus on Law and Order

Security and governance reforms form another key pillar of the manifesto. Shah said the BJP would adopt a strict approach towards issues such as infiltration and border-related concerns.

He outlined plans to strengthen border security and take firm action against cattle smuggling. Emphasising the importance of law enforcement, Shah said maintaining law and order would be a top priority if the party comes to power in the state.

Promises for Government Employees

The BJP has also addressed the concerns of government employees in its manifesto. Shah promised that the Seventh Pay Commission recommendations would be implemented within 45 days of forming the government.

This assurance is aimed at addressing long-standing demands related to salaries and benefits, which have been a recurring issue among state employees.

Cultural and Heritage Initiatives

In addition to governance and welfare measures, the manifesto includes plans to promote West Bengal’s cultural identity. Shah announced the establishment of a ‘Vande Mataram Museum’ to celebrate and preserve the state’s historical and cultural heritage.

He noted that the initiative would serve as a platform to highlight Bengal’s contribution to the nation’s history while fostering a sense of pride among its residents.

Positioning Ahead of Elections

With this manifesto, the BJP has sought to present a comprehensive roadmap covering economic support, administrative reforms, and cultural initiatives. The party aims to appeal to a broad section of voters by combining welfare promises with governance-focused policies.

As the West Bengal Assembly elections approach, the manifesto is expected to play a crucial role in shaping political discourse, with competing parties likely to respond with their own agendas and counter-promises.
