Governance – India’s parliamentary leadership is placing renewed emphasis on integrity, cooperation, and public-focused governance as the nation works toward long-term development goals.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Thursday appealed to lawmakers across the country to move beyond partisan divisions and focus on serving citizens with honesty and dedication. Addressing a gathering of legislators, he highlighted the crucial role elected representatives play in shaping India’s future, particularly as the country works toward its vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
Emphasis on Public Service and Accountability
Birla underscored that public office carries a deep responsibility, urging legislators to translate people’s expectations into meaningful policies and actions. He stressed that democratic institutions can only remain strong when they function with transparency, inclusiveness, and accountability. According to him, maintaining public trust requires consistent effort, ethical conduct, and a clear focus on welfare-oriented governance.

Speaking at the inaugural session of the CPA India Region Zone VII Conference in Panaji, Goa, he said states should share successful practices to address common challenges more effectively.
He added that while each region faces unique issues, collective learning and cooperation can turn these challenges into opportunities. By adopting proven strategies from one another, states can enhance public service delivery and achieve better developmental outcomes.
Balancing Technology with Human Sensitivity
While acknowledging the growing influence of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence in governance, Birla cautioned that human values must remain central. He said that empathy, understanding, and responsiveness are essential qualities that technology alone cannot replace.
Legislators, he suggested, must use technological tools to improve efficiency but should also ensure that policies remain people-centric. Addressing citizens’ concerns requires not just data-driven approaches but also a genuine connection with their needs and experiences.
