Narcotics – Mumbai Police Seize High-Value Cannabis, One Arrested

Narcotics – In a significant development in the fight against illegal narcotics, Mumbai Police have confiscated drugs valued at approximately Rs 7.69 crore and detained a suspected trafficker in the Vile Parle area. Officials confirmed the action on Tuesday, describing it as part of a broader campaign to curb the spread of banned substances across the city.

Mumbai police cannabis seizure

Seizure Made During Routine Patrol

The operation was led by the Worli unit of the Anti-Narcotics Cell during a routine patrol along Ferozshah Mehta Road in Vile Parle East. Officers noticed a young man standing with a trolley bag under circumstances they found unusual. When the individual spotted the police team, his behavior reportedly changed, and he attempted to leave the area quickly, prompting further suspicion.

The police team acted without delay, stopping the individual and initiating questioning on the spot. His responses, coupled with his conduct, led officers to conduct a more thorough inspection.

Accused Identified and Contraband Recovered

The individual was later identified as Adnan Nasir Khan, aged 24. According to officials, he resides in Mira Road and originally hails from Nashik. During questioning, Khan admitted that the trolley bag in his possession contained illegal substances intended for distribution.

A search of the bag revealed multiple packets wrapped in white plastic. These were found to contain hydroponic cannabis weighing a total of 7 kilograms and 600 grams. Authorities noted that this particular form of cannabis is cultivated using advanced techniques, making it more potent and significantly more expensive than traditional variants.

Forensic Confirmation and Evidence Collection

Following the seizure, the substance was sent for forensic examination, which confirmed it to be hydroponic cannabis. The recovered material has since been sealed and documented as part of the official evidence in the case.

In addition to the drugs, officers also seized a mobile phone and a passport belonging to the accused. These items are expected to play a crucial role in tracing connections and uncovering potential links to larger networks.

Case Registered Under NDPS Act

Authorities have registered a case at the Vile Parle Police Station under Section 20(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, along with other relevant provisions. Legal proceedings have been initiated, and the accused remains in custody as investigations continue.

Probe Expands Into Supply Network

Investigators are now focusing on identifying the source of the seized narcotics and determining the intended recipients. Officials suspect that the arrested individual may be part of a wider distribution chain operating within or beyond the city.

Efforts are underway to map out the supply route and identify others involved in the network. The seized mobile phone is being examined for communication records that could provide leads, while travel details linked to the passport are also under scrutiny.

Ongoing Crackdown Shows Results

Police officials highlighted that this seizure is part of a sustained effort to dismantle drug trafficking operations in Mumbai. Over the past two months, authorities have reportedly confiscated narcotics worth nearly Rs 38 crore in multiple operations carried out across different parts of the city.

The continued focus on intelligence-led operations and increased vigilance during patrols has contributed to these outcomes. Officials reiterated their commitment to intensifying the crackdown and ensuring stricter enforcement against those involved in illegal drug activities.
