SEOTrends – Congress Targets Assam Government Over Rising Cost Burden

SEOTrends – Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Gaurav Gogoi has launched a strong criticism of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government in Assam, alleging that the administration has failed to address the growing financial difficulties faced by ordinary citizens. Speaking at a media interaction held at Rajiv Bhawan on Sunday, the Congress leader said the government has not fulfilled the expectations of the people despite receiving significant public support during elections.

Congress targets assam government over prices

Concerns Over Essential Commodity and Fuel Prices

Gogoi argued that the steady increase in the prices of essential household goods and fuel has placed a heavy burden on families across the state. According to him, the government has not taken adequate measures to regulate market prices or provide relief from the rising cost of living.

He stated that the inability to control inflation and fuel expenses has revealed what he described as an administration disconnected from the everyday struggles of citizens. The Congress leader maintained that people had expected better governance and stronger intervention in matters affecting their daily lives.

Criticism of Government Priorities

During the interaction, Gogoi also questioned the priorities of the state leadership. He alleged that the Chief Minister and senior ministers are spending more time dealing with political and administrative matters within the ruling establishment than focusing on public welfare issues.

According to Gogoi, discussions surrounding cabinet positions and internal political management have overshadowed pressing concerns such as price increases and market instability. He claimed that the hardships experienced by consumers are not receiving the attention they deserve from the government.

Congress Reviews Electoral Performance

The APCC chief also spoke about efforts being undertaken by the Congress party to strengthen its grassroots presence and reconnect with voters. A review meeting was held at Rajiv Bhawan to assess the party’s performance and prepare for future political challenges.

Gogoi said the party is working on a renewed strategy aimed at building what he called a “New Congress” that reflects public expectations. He explained that the meeting focused on examining factors that contributed to the party’s setbacks in previous Assembly elections and identifying ways to improve its outreach among voters.

Preparations for Upcoming By-Election

A significant portion of the discussions centered on preparations for the forthcoming by-election in the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency. Gogoi emphasized that Congress intends to use lessons learned from past electoral outcomes to strengthen its campaign and engage more effectively with local communities.

He noted that the party plans to focus on issues affecting the public while shaping its strategy for the bypoll. The objective, he said, is to present itself as a stronger alternative by addressing concerns that resonate with voters.

Statewide Assessment Underway

Providing details of the party’s organizational activities, Gogoi informed reporters that Congress observers have been assigned to all 126 Assembly constituencies across Assam. Their responsibility is to prepare detailed assessments of political conditions and organizational performance in their respective areas.

He added that these reports will contribute to broader discussions with the party’s central leadership and help formulate future plans. The findings are expected to play an important role in determining Congress’s approach in the coming electoral contests.

The review meeting was chaired by Gaurav Gogoi and attended by several senior Congress leaders, including Member of Parliament Rakibul Hussain, former Leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia, Deputy Leader of the Opposition Jaiprakash Das, former minister Pranati Phukan, Mahila Congress President Meera Borthakur, and Congress leader Roselina Tirkey, along with members of the committee overseeing preparations for the Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election.
