Leader of Opposition Atishi stated that the boycott would continue unless the suspension of four AAP legislators—imposed during the previous session—was withdrawn. According to her, the suspension was unjustified and hindered the opposition’s ability to participate effectively in legislative discussions, including the crucial budget proceedings.

Allegations of Fear and Political Pressure

Delhi AAP chief Saurabh Bharadwaj used the occasion to level serious allegations against the BJP, claiming that a climate of fear is being cultivated through the use of law enforcement agencies. He argued that threats of legal action, arrests, and police intervention are being used to silence dissenting voices, not only in Delhi but also in other states.

Bharadwaj suggested that such tactics could have long-term societal consequences, particularly on younger generations who may grow up perceiving criticism of authority as risky or dangerous. He emphasized that fear-driven governance could weaken democratic institutions rather than strengthen them.

During his address, Bharadwaj pointed to a recent case in Gujarat, where an AAP worker was allegedly arrested following a police raid. He claimed the charges were fabricated and that the individual was jailed before eventually securing bail after several days. He warned that similar patterns of enforcement could emerge in Delhi if such practices are not challenged.

Concerns Over Democratic Values

The protest also included references to historical figures associated with courage and resistance, with Bharadwaj suggesting that awareness of such ideals could empower citizens to question authority. He argued that a society driven by fear and intimidation cannot progress or aspire to global leadership.

At the time of the protest, there was no immediate detailed response from BJP leaders regarding the allegations made by AAP. However, the developments have added to the ongoing political friction between the ruling party and the opposition in the national capital.
